NOTE: I am a Junior and will not be graduating early. I just want to know what I should do to improve.
ALSO: which colleges to you recommend me applying/on current trajectory would I get into the following colleges:
- Harvard
- Yale
- Stanford
- Princeton
- University of Chicago
- MIT
- WashU (St. L)
- Vanderbilt

Also 3rd in regional science fair
and grades have been getting better (1 B each semester in Freshman year and 1 B total sophomore year.) I hear Ivies like that.

So, I was looking at my grades online and I’m sort of scared… I got a B+ last year in my Calculus A class (second semester) and that’s a ironic because I skipped ahead a math level… Now I’m looking at my grades and seeing that I might get a B+ in Spanish for the Semester (if I continue on the current trajectory) how will that show to a admissions counselor? Will my B in math last year mean that I shouldn’t bother applying to MIT or Caltech because they’ll be turned off by that B? My school is in the top-100 and is really competitive. I’m sure there are people who have a 4.0, what do college usually think about that?

So, anyone care to chance me? Or give me some advice on what to do? Please.

Check back in when you have SAT scores; any chancing w/out them is too speculative.

Got a 2300
770-CR
750-Math
780-Writing
I think I’ll retake it later, but it’s not a high priority.

Bump…

I’d say UChicago, WashU, and Vandy look good chance-wise as long as you’ve shown “demonstrated interest” at these schools, particularly WashU, imo. The other schools on your list are kind of a crap-shoot to predict. Many competitive candidates in the applicant pool at HYPSM with very solid credentials like yours. Good luck.

My conclusion is just like jshain’s–in at WUSTL and Vandy, probable at Chicago, and coin flips at HYPSM, just like all the other credible candidates. But, flip a coin 5 times and you will probably hit heads on one of them.

The strong ECs will get you some boost; just make sure you convey depth.

Thanks! Anyone want to recommend somewhere I’ll get a nice scholarship?

Bump…

“Anyone want to recommend somewhere I’ll get a nice scholarship?”

I would add Rice and USC (the CA one) to your list of schools. Both are very generous with scholarship money and USC could then also be a low match school on your current list of extremely selective schools.
