I'd really appreciate your insight :)

I gather you have not taken any AP exams and in the categories that will meet the admission criteria for NYU? That would be too bad because you seem to be a stronger student than your SAT scores indicate. Maybe you should consider taking ACT with writing since some students do better in the ACTs (seem to test subjects learned in HS more so than the SATs). Got to do something about the SAT scores. Either provide AP exam scores, if possible or ACT with Writing scores. If it is too late for AP exams given that you are entering your senior year in the fall, then you should use your summer to study for the standardized test (get paid tutoring or get into a SAT/ ACT prep course). That SAT score is really quite low.

Besides that, the other statistics look competitive, GPA is good and rank is very good (top 5% expected). ECs look decent. How you write the essay and what you say about yourself in the essay, as well as what is said by your recommenders will be big factors to give your application more of a “personality.” However, that combined SAT score of 1680 has to be addressed in some way, as mentioned above.

Well I got a 4 on my ap world and I’m getting the English and us in July! Will that help? But I think I’ll take the ACTs for sure. Thanks for your help! :)!

Too bad, you are missing one AP exam score in either science or math. From the NYU Admissions Office website:

NYU has changed its policies on standardized tests to provide applicants with more flexibility to demonstrate their talents and mastery of subject matter. So long as they comply with the minimum requirements specified here, an applicant should feel comfortable presenting material which presents him or her in the best light. No preferential treatment is given to any one of the following standardized test options in our admission process. Applicants for admission to NYU’s New York City campus are required to submit one of the following:

The SAT Reasoning Test or;
The ACT (with Writing Test) or;
Three SAT Subject Test scores (one in literature or the humanities, one in math or science, and one non-language test of the student’s choice) or;
Three AP exam scores earned prior to senior year (one in literature or the humanities, one in math or science, and one non-language of the student’s choice)

Yeah that really is too bad :frowning: I will definitely look into acts and take them in September! Do you go to NYU? And if so, do you like it?

sit down with your parents and find out if you can afford to attend NYU Steinhardt. Cost of Attendance (without any additional expenses for books, transp, personal stuff etc) for 2011-2012 is close to $60,000.

I don’t believe it’s a requirement to get in to have three AP test scores…I only had one before my senior year! That’s all my school offered.

Oops, sorry!!! I read that wrong :frowning: You wrote OR three AP tests! I did take the ACT with writing.

Good luck in getting in!

I think if you get up your Sats or do well on acts you have a shot. Realize, though, that NYU is very popular and though you may have a good chance, make sure to have a well rounded list outside of NYU.

Thanks guys! Yeah I know the cost is a lot and I am looking at other schools like Marymount Manhattan and Pace. I will definitely retake my sats and take the act! Thanks again :)
