Academics: so-so
-GPA: 3.9 unweighted
4.6 weighted
UC: 4.27, might change
-class rank: 15/600ish (yep, gpa is inflated like crazy at my school)
-SAT I: 800 math, 720 verbal (ouch), and 760 writing
-SAT II:800 bio, 720 writing, 760 math lvl 2
-not taken ACT, wondering if I should take

Awards: (yeah...depressing)
-National Merit Commended (hopefully finalist ^.^)
-got research awards at Berkeley MUN and a 2 high school conferences
-I know I got 3rd place for math at a regional Academic conference, but I couldn't attend the awards ceremony. I'm pretty sure it was just within the school district or something, can anyone help me out on this... what's the lowest award level...?(I was seriously snoozing during the test)

ECs: (ummmmmm....yeah, not a lot..i'll edit as i think up more later)
Ecology club: secretary
Community service at hospital, 100+ hours

BTW: i'm not a great writer, so I have a nagging feeling my apps essay is mediocre at best...but will my academics make up for mediocre ECs?

let's see, schools:
UCLA
UCSD
UCI
USC
Rice
Chicago

p.s: can anyone guess which state do i live in?

What is… California? You should be competitive for all those schools. Are you a senior next year I’m guessing? Maybe try to land an interesting volunteering gig, or follow a passion if you have one. For UC’s the points thresholds for volunteering are for 100 hours and then 200 hours.

From the information you have provided us with, I would say:
UCLA-high match
UCSD-match
UCI-match
USC-match
Rice-high match
Chicago-high match(it depends on your essays)
I would suggest to do some more ecs. Best of luck!

You’re probably in for all the cali schools, as for UofC and Rice their probably going to be a little tougher, but you’ll probably get in. Take the ACT and if you get like a 35 send that in.

The UCs and USC should all be within range for you, but Chicago and Rice might be a little tough considering your ECs and possibly weak essays. Either way, you still have a pretty good shot at both.

LOL at Korean_dreamer He’s right though, 720 is NOT a bad score, especially for those colleges you’re applying to. I agree with what everyone else has basically said on here; UCs are a match, Rice I think high match, and I think Chicago is a reach/low reach because they can be kind of unpredictable
