Chance a nervous junior

I love Bowdoin. If I could pick any college to go to, I’d pick Bowdoin. I don’t know if I have the stats, though… I’d appreciate your thoughts!

I know my SATs need to come up… will happen. I don’t know what happened to CR that day. I can probably get CR up to about a 750, and I’m betting my eventual score will be around 2250. I know my recs will be great since I’m VERY passionate about learning.

I know that my application isn’t great. But what differentiates me from other students is my legitimate love of learning. All my teachers say that I’m one of the top students they’ve seen, not to brag. I may not participate in many ECs, but that is because I spend my time immersing myself in knowledge. My intended major is double major gov’t/history, minor in statistics.

dear sara,
i know this is going to sound horrible, but the thing you have to watch out for most in you application is your arrogant undertone. phrases like “not to brag” really don’t achieve their intended goals. don’t worry about your test scores, they’re immaculate, and bowdoin really doesn’t care so much about them any way. you have hundreds of hours of community service so that’s really not so bad either. the best advice i can give you is: know your audience. you posted on a thread as a junior a week before the deadline. i guarantee, everyone who read this snarled a little at you.

I’m SOOOOOO sorry. I didn’t know the deadline was now. The only reason that I posted now was that we’re planning college visits and my parents think that Bowdoin is too far of a reach for me to visit. I wanted to know whether to overlook Bowdoin as a far reach, or if it was in my range of actual chances

Looking back, user12, I see what you mean. I shouldn’t have used the phrase “not to brag.” I just want to emphasize that my academics are the best part of my application; sometimes I feel that they are all that I have. I understand now how my post was if not innappropriate, posted at the wrong time and in bad taste. To all those who read my post in annoyance: good luck with your applications and PLEASE forgive/ignore my rude self!
