You should get in most of the above.. unless you do something really silly on your app.

Northwestern, NYU,Chicago, and Duke are all great schools, like mentioned above, and you have decent chances for them. . You should consider them.

"I wouldn’t fit in at UChicago…the atmosphere is far too competitive for me.

Thanks though!

Anyone else?"
You really should be fine… It’s not that competitive.

Hmm, maybe I’ve been given poor information by my guidance counselor. She convinced me that UChicago is absurdly competitive and that I would want to transfer if I attended. I probably shouldn’t have listened to her-- the guidance at my school is notoriously unhelpful.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. Perhaps I’ll look into a few more schools…see if they’ll be a good fit for this crazy liberal, politically active, future English major. =]

very intense academics yes. cutthroat competition between students? not that i know of

well, ill tell you that i only outscored you on SAT by about 30 points BUT you had a way better GPA than mine, and i got harvard and princeton… i say you should still attempt the HYPs…

“crazy liberal, politically active, future English major”

Are you describing you, or me?
=)

^^ I think I’m describing a large number of high school students from New York. :)

And Big_D, after Penn rejected me (not even deferred!) I became frightened of the ivy league. I think I’ll be better off at a small liberal arts school (or GW…the exception to my rule).
