I know it doesn't help that I am out of state, but I was hoping that a higher-than-average ACT score might give me a boost? Any tips? UCSB has been my dream school since freshmen year ):

You should be in. Really. =)

I’m a freshman here. I have a few out of state friends (They hail from Massachusetts, New York, Boston, Hong Kong, Texas, who knows. . . ), and their stats were similar or lesser to yours. And they are all wonderful and fun people too.

Do try to boost your ACT a little bit though, to be in the safe side, since you are out of state.

And write at least a solid essay.

Are you either fully loaded or expecting MASSIVE scholarship money?

UCSB out of state costs $45,000-$50,000/year and that figure is only going up in the upcoming years.

UCSB was my dream school, applied, got in, but decided for out of state, there is absolutely no good reason to spend a small house on my college education. Instead I go to Wisconsin, will receive the same education for a 3rd of the cost.

That’s something to think about, but if it is truly your dream school and are prepared to take on debt, then go for it. Dreams like these can only be accomplished once.

Thank you lemon! :)

countrygentleman:
-my education at UCSB will cost about the same as the private schools i am applying to. i’m not loaded, but i am an only child and so my parents are willing to help me out to a decent extent.
-if i end up going to CA, my mom is going out there are we will be establishing residency as Californians. I’ve already spoken to an admissions person about this…I’ll be paying the in-state tuition for my junior/senior year. So it won’t be too bad after all.
-And if I do hopefully realize my dreams of becoming a doctor, the debt will eventually be paid off…After about 15 years of school of course ;)
