thanks so muchhh in advance. I will be paying attention to this thread so fill free to ask questions or anything.

oh yeah also UNC-chapel hill i forgot to add that.

What are you trying to major in?

im pretty undecided but most likely business admin or something in that area.

i eventually wanna get into the film biz but a film major is pretty worthless. If i go to USC, NYU, or UCLA. I would most likely do a film emphasis of some sort like a minor or double major (USC has a joint program that i am really interested in)

University of Southern California–
UCLA
UCB (Call it Cal or Berkeley, but not UCB)
UCSD
NYU
Northwestern
Stanford
University of Washington
University of Utah
Chapman
Michigan-Ann Arbor (not Ann Harbor)
Wisconsin-Madison
Vanderbilt
UNC–Chapel Hill

Okay, here’s the thing. You should get in to evey school on this list except possibly for Stanford (reach for everybody), NYU and USC film schools–because they are incredibly competitive, and Vanderbilt–preppy.

Among the others, Northwestern and Michigan and USC will be your toughest ones. Also, you will get into NYU and USC as long as you don’t apply for film–and at USC, you will really have to show an interest. Write about your plans for a joint major (maybe business and cinema studies or Communication and cinema studies).

Cal and UCLA can also be tough from out-of-state, but they go much more by GPA and test scores than the others, so you shouldn’t have a problem.

Good luck

P.S. I lived in Utah for 4 years after getting my MBA and was accepted to the University of Utah law school, but decided not to attend at the last minute (financially couldn’t figure out how to support the family well enough while attending law school). Based upon your comments, you either live in Park City or just outside of Salt Lake City.

i skiied at deer valley – best week of my life.

anyways, cruzer said it pretty well - stanford is everybody’s reach, and northwestern and michigan are toughies as well. you have a great list though.

ha oops i added an H on michigan.

but

yeah I actually went to the meet USC tour just a few weeks ago and have been emailing the admission officer about financial aid and just any other questions i have had. They know that im very interested in going there for school. I talked about the biz joint program and all that jazz. They have all my information and stuff already too.

oh and about stanford. I know it is a reach but man it would be SO cool if i got in there.

I wont be really applying to film schools most likely biz schools.

Oh i live in Salt Lake City. Near Holladay.

bump 10char

bump again for kicks and giggles.

i was also kinda thinkin maybe notre dame.

you got strong ecs and solid stats…

University of Southern California: match
UCLA: reach
Berkeley: reach
UCSD: match
NYU: match
Northwestern: reach
Stanford: high reach
University of Washington: safety
University of Utah: safety
Chapman: safety/low reach
Michigan-Ann Harbor: high reach
Wisconsin-Madison: match
Vanderbilt: high match/low reach

not sure how valid my opinion is  but if u manage to get 33-34 ACT after retaking, it’ll def. help you as well.

by the way, correct me if im wrong, but UC schools want 3 SAT IIs. so i think you need to take 1 more SAT II.

^

its only two. [University of California Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/examination_reqs.html)

i wish i woulda done better on US history but that test was 10 times harder than the AP test.

why not BYU :)?

Maybe he isn’t a Latter-day Saint, or if he is, he wants an atmosphere better suited for intellectual pursuits that don’t have to be restrained by or congruous with the school’s spiritual beliefs. I was at BYU for a year and a half and transferred thereafter because of that.

However, I would advise you, chaserz, to not sell yourself short by going to the U of U, a school where 89% of applicants get in, for you look like an exceptional student. Even with those scruples that I have (or had) of BYU, it is still a vastly superior school to the U. But I understand the comfort receiving acceptance letters from safety schools brings. I still think though that you should save yourself the $60. Here’s my assessment of your chances:

University of Southern California high
UCLA medium
Berkeley medium
UCSD certain
NYU high
Northwestern low
Stanford low
University of Washington certain
University of Utah certain
Chapman medium
Michigan-Ann Harbor high
Wisconsin-Madison certain
Vanderbilt high

yeah my family is actually LDS but i kinda grew away from the church and now i dont go at all or only for like really big holidays/events (im agnostic/border line atheist). BYU does not sound fun at all. Id feel like i was in church 24/7. It just kinda sucks cause my only real alternative to BYU if i was to stay instate is the U.

im not sure if i should apply to chapman and UCSD. The more i read about it the more i dont really think i would wanna go if i got in (no sports, more science focus for SD). So i think im taking that off my list. How does my list look by the way?

Also as a reply to noumena. Do you really think that Wisconsin can be considered a safety?

bump.

what are some safeties that i could get some major financial aid from?

bump again yes i know annoying.
