Chance A Recruited Athlete please

Hi, I visited Amherst and I love it. I was wondering if I even have a shot at Amherst, I feel like the basketball coach wants me to apply Early Decision and is not telling me honestly whether I have a true shot at admissions or not. He says he will give me admissions help. I realize it may be harder to gauge my admission chances because of my recruit status, but I appreciate any feed back.

I am being recruited for basketball. Thanks a lot, any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I probably should have noted that I wrote this for my friend, these are his stats.

Ask the coach bluntly whether you are one of his slotted players (or “tips”). Amherst has 66 admits per year who are athletic tips, meaning they can get in with lower academic numbers than “unhooked” applicants. That’s the way the system works there. That said, your numbers are pretty close to Amhert’s average, and certainly within their 25%-75% range, and you are a good student at a competitive private school. If the coach really wants you, you’re in. If he wants you a little bit but not enough to give you a spot on his list, you still may get in. If he doesn’t want you much, all bets are off. You should have a frank conversation with him.

If Amherst is his first choice for all means tell him to apply ED. His stats are good enough to be accepted and any word put by the coach on his behalf will be a big booster. Besides been able to pay full in this time of crisis surely will not be overlooked. Amherst is supposedly need blind but if they are increasing enrolled, as i read in some other CC tread they are, to boost revenues then those added students must come in with some money.
