Are you applying to Wharton or CAS?

@renaissancedad I will be applying to CAS for the Economics major at UPenn

Academics are fine. ECs are solid but don’t stand out, and are a bit diffuse. Your essays and how you present yourself will be key.

Why are you expecting a subpar counselor rec? A top ten school in NY should have counselors who are well-versed in admissions. Getting a good rec from your GC is really important. Can you do anything to rectify this situation?

Your stats are about golden so don’t fret about that part - the SAT II Lit score is especially impressive in my book. I’d have to agree that your EC’s are a bit jumbled, and you lack major awards, but you have decent leadership so it’s not like that part of the app will hurt you badly if at all. Your EDM EP sounds cool, might want to highlight that if you spent a lot of time on them. I worry that none of your EC’s convey any passion about economics, but hey, if you can write a killer Why this Major? essay, then I can’t say anything about that. One last thing, I don’t know the extent and passion of your volunteering, but 50 hours spread over 3+ years of high school over multiple activities isn’t all that impressive - unless you’re running out of activities on your app, I wouldn’t focus on that.
