Yes, bring up your ACT score and you will have a better chance. Your do have a fair chance at UMich even with your current credential.

I think they care a lot about interest (even more than they may admit); however, I would imagine that they are more interested in out of staters’ interest for obvious reasons. Though, showing interest definitely can’t hurt you even if you are in state. If you draft some very compelling, passionate essays that demonstrate that interest (without being too over the top) then I think you’ll have a good shot.

@WishfulWolverine thanks, I’m sure my essays will rock their socks.

In any case, you should sign up for a school visit. You may learn something from the campus visit that it may help you to write the “why this school” essay.

Bump

rump dump trump BUMP

Bump again

You keep saying you are going to explain things…your gpa, your poor math subscore, your freshman grades. Schools are not going to want excuses for these things…they are what they are and explaining all these things won’t make a difference. Instead of focusing on the negative aspects of your application, you need to play up the positives.

@GA2012MOM Welp I’m no longer worried about my math score, got a 27 on last practice test. I know I have a lot of positives and I will focus on them. The explaining is just a precaution.

They don’t want to hear excuses…skip the explaining.

@GA2012MOM I’m sorry but that’s just false. It’s not excuses it’s an explanation that isn’t evident in my transcript. EVERY admissions officer I’ve met says they’ll take explinations to heart.

But you don’t have any good explinations. Going to a crappy charter school or being bad at fast math are NOT acceptable excuses. A death in your immediate family or a documented long term illness would be things that could be a factor but not those you have listed.

@GA2012MOM did I mention I had emotional issues (a.e. depression)? But regardless I need an explanation because I’m submitting my 8th grade report because of foreign Lang and there is a definite drop from 8-9.
