Chance a Washingtonian with a pretty Good SAT... but a DISMAL GPA.

Hello, I attempted to get a chance a little bit ago, but there were absolutely no responses at all. So, I decided to go get some more information and try this again.

Well, in a nutshell. My grades are not so good. In high school I had trouble during my freshman year. I hung out with the wrong crowd of people and didn't pay enough attention to school. Thanks to some timely intervention by my parents and teachers, I was able to turn it around during my sophomore and junior year. But, I still had quite a bit of trouble. I definitely tried hard, but a lot of the time, things simply did not click for me. My GPA was never awesome and I am absolutely sure that it will be the reason for many of school rejections. I have come to terms with that fact. But, I also believe that some places will accept me. I am a hard worker and my test scores are pretty decent. I was even on the list of commended students for National Achievement Scholarship (Basically the National Merit Scholarship for African-American Students). Please help me out.

Cumulative GPA - 2.8

Schools that I am applying to:
Arizona State University
University of Colorado - Boulder
Hawaii Pacific University
Central Washington University
Washington State University
Anywhere else I have a shot at getting into

Please help, I would greatly appreciate any and all input. I would rather not go to a community college though, if at all possible. Thank you for your time.

Do you need financial aid? If yes, this list is unfortunately probably not going to yield you a lot. What do you plan to study?

Yeah I probably will need some financial aid, but for me right now just getting into a school is the issue. And I think I want to study something in the communications field.

Anyone else?

Honestly, while sub-par test scores can sometimes be surmounted, a GPA as low as yours might pose a serious obstacle to admission, because it is indicative of several years of work. That said, admission to these schools doesn’t seem impossible. Get your GPA up as much as you can, write great essays, and you could plausibly end up at one of these schools. Good luck!

Chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1029217-one-more-time-i-promise-ill-chance-you-back.html

Thanks for the input, I also understand that 2 of my schools (Arizona and Central Washington) both have higher than 80% acceptance rates. I also know that the about 25% of Hawaii Pacific University applicants have between a 2.5 and 2.9 GPA. Am I that bad of an applicant that I would not be accepted to those schools? What do you think?

I think you’ll get in to most of them :)
