I was deferred SCEA. I recently received likely letters to Dartmouth and Williams.

My stats:

4.0 GPA (my school - one of the best publics in NJ - doesn't rank but I am probably in the top 5-10 people out of a class of 350)

2380 SAT (800V, 800W, 780M)

800 and 760 on 2 SAT IIs

Outstanding recs (one said I was the finest student and person he's worked with in 30 years of teaching)

I have taken the hardest course load at my school (4 APs up until this year - all 5s) and am taking another 3 this year.

Activities:
I am an all-state trumpet player, editor of the school paper, president of the community service club, captain of the nationally-recognized quiz bowl team, varsity tennis member, and have helped found a service non-profit that has raised over $20,000 (and has been recognized by CNN).

Main Awards: National Merit Finalist, Cum Laude, Harvard Book Award, Cornell Book Award, AP Scholar with Honor, President's Volunteer Service Award, Scholastic Writing Award (National Gold Medal), Lots of Service Grants

I'm also applying to Harvard, Princeton (legacy), Brown, and Amherst.

I would have said you had a good chance SCEA too… but idk. Ivies are such a crapshoot that no one really knows, but I think you have a decent shot.

Congrats on the DMouth and Wms Likely letters. Great options. Congrats also on your HS achievements. If you get the Yale “fat envelope” please consider going to Bulldog Days and let them woo and court you. I know many SCEA deferrees who feel slighted by Yale. However, if they accept you eventually, please keep an open mind. It’s really a wonderful institution. Best of luck to you

Pros: Good Stats, OUTSTANDING ECs…really they are great!
Cons: No really great awards and I am guessing you are an ORM or White

From what I have gather from this app process, colleges are not indifferent but only care slightly about awards. Your ECs are HYPS material as are your scores. Thus, I believe you will be in at one of those schools (Princeton is most likely with your legacy…I am JEALOUS). Yale…though…might not be as easy. Its a 10% admit rate for deferrals. I believe that pool is the most competitive too…so I wouldnt put money on it.

I actually think it’s higher than the overall rate, which is 7%ish. And it’s actually definitely higher than the normal RD admit rate, which I think hovers around 5%.
