Chance an Alaskan for Penn and Vanderbilt

Could you guys chance me for Vanderbilt and Penn? Decisions are coming out at the end of this month and I’m somewhat nervous. I would more than willing to chance back!

Gender: Male
State: Alaska
Race: Caucasian
W GPA: 4.2
UW GPA: 3.94
Class Rank: 6/361
ACT: 33 (34 English, 31 Math, 33 Reading, 33 Science, 8 Writing)
AP Scores: Biology (4), English Lang (3), Calculus AB (3), Macroeconomics (3), Microeconomics (5), US History (5)

Recs: Both my teachers let me see them, they’re both great. One’s from my AP Lang teacher, the other’s from my Honors World History/APUSH/AP Gov Teacher. I also have a glowing rec from the executive director from the Youth Court that I’ve spent 530+ hours volunteering for that explains how I’ve worked towards implementing new sentencing options for defendants as our Chief Judge.

Extracurriculars

Youth Court - Currently the Chief Judge. I’ve been doing this since I was a freshman and have racked up over 530 hours of community service with this organization. I also participate on the organization’s Executive Board, Board of Directors, and Ethics Board. I’ve also invested a ton of time towards creating new sentencing options for defendants.

Speech and Debate - I’ve been doing this since my sophomore year and am currently the team’s LD debate captain. I was a semifinalist at the state tournament in LD debate my sophomore year and an octafinalist my junior year. I also was a semifinalist in Congressional Debate my junior year as well. I have attended NCFL Nationals in LD debate in both my sophomore and junior years.

Partners Club - I’ve been working with this club since my freshman year and am currently a co-president. We basically work with the special education kids at my school to make them feel like an important part of the school community.

Mock Trial - I did this activity this year because our team needed another attorney and I agreed to do it so that they wouldn’t have to drop out of the competition. I actually learned a lot from it and plan to return next year! It was a lot of fun.

JV Tennis - I’ve been playing since my sophomore year. I mostly do this just for the purposes of fun and fitness. I have no realistic expectations of making varsity, but I’ve had fun playing tennis and I’ve found a sport I actually like, so that’s a plus. I won’t be playing senior year because of surgery, however.

We the People Team - We won the state tournament my junior year.

Constitutional Academy - Summer program in Washington D.C. where I got to spend a week learning about the Constitution. It was pretty rad.

NHS - It’s kind of a joke at my school, so…

Stats are in range but these schools are reaches for most everyone. You look good though. Being from the 49th state may help with geographic diversity. Best of luck to you!

@TheAtlantic‌ thanks! Do you think that my ECs are too scattered? That’s my biggest concern.

Also, I felt really good about my interviews for both schools if that helps.

As the Atlantic said stats are in range, I think your ECs are really good. I wish I could say I have racked up 530 hours of community service! With good essays you shouldn’t have any less chance than the rest of the cohort! Chance me back?

Your ECs actually seem pretty focused to me

Yeah the ECs are fine, I see volunteering, politics, and sports. Debate awards are pretty impressive. Good chances, probably get into one of the two.

Being from Alaska and with decent scores and grades: you’re in.
