OK, I SCREWED UP MY FROSH/SOPH year. I will not lie. I finished my freshman year with an weighted GPA of 2.7, and my soph. year with a weighted GPA of 3.2. Below is my current GPA info to date. I really want to go to a great college! I am an IB student, and have been since fifth grade. If UChicago is not right for me, feel free to give me suggestions! I also live in Chicago, so going for my interview is NOT a problem.

IB English I - A
IB Biology - A
IB Math Studies - C
IB Spanish IV - B
IB Psychology - A
IB Theory of Knowledge - A
IB European History - A

W GPA: 5.0
UW GPA: 3.5

ACT: 29
SAT: Didn't take it....Will that hurt me?

I have an international background as an IB student and People to People Student Ambassador. I do soccer, debate and mock trial (I hope to become a lawyer).

you seem like a fine candidate for uchi. an upward gpa trend is better than downward. uchi might be a stretch, but it is for most - so definitely apply.
also, i noticed you’re wondering about your test scores. your 29 is solid, but for UChi. Brown or Dartmouth (i see you’re interested from your username) it might be a little low - just by looking at the admitted students data. i would suggest taking the SAT if possible. I, along with some of my academic peers, scored differently (converted scores-wise) on the ACT and SAT. you might be able to get a higher score, which obviously boosts your application. other than that…just keep going strong with the ECs that you love and can show passion for. and finally, rock the essays! good luck!

Aha! You’ve picked the right university. UChicago lurrrrrvvvvessssss IB!! You should definitely spend more time on your essay. Definitely go to the interview. Apply and see!

I think you might want to take the SAT. Your ACT seems a little low for UofC

I would take the ACT again if you haven’t taken it too many times already. UChicago will only see the score from the test date you choose to send so they will not even know you have taken it multiple times. I found that I did much better on my second time and would have improved even more had I had the time to take it a third time.

Also I was very confused by your IB grades, IB is normally from 1-7, how do you get the A, B, C etc?

And not taking the SAT will not hurt your chances, it’s one or the other not both.
If I were you though I would really work hard on your maths score in either the ACT or in SATI as maths studies in the IB is often looked upon as substandard in terms of coping with UChicago’s core.

People to People Student Ambassador means absolutely nothing except you make da cash money.

I’m one, too. (And regret it.)

I’m confused, what is a people to people student ambassador?

(from what i know, obv. op can elaborate), people to people is a program where high school kids travel to different countries to partake various activities. for example, if you play soccer - one could sign up to play soccer in australia for two weeks in the summer. the programs have themes, like sports, politics, teaching english, service work etc - but like signitblank mentioned, its a lot like those DC leadership programs: not selective and quite expensive. thats not to say the program isnt something that can add to ones life experience.

Our school converts the scale 6-7 A, 5-6 B, 3-4 C, 2 D, 1 F
