I’m Asian and live in Michigan. I also go to an underserved high school, where the average ACT score is an 18. I applied to Harvard and University of Chicago EA and was deferred. I’ve improved my score though, which was said to hurt me.

I agree with Tman1005, but don’t give up hope. Based on your stats you seem to be doing quite well. The AP count is a bit low, but due to your school situation, I think you are fine. Remember, going from deferred to acceptance is extremely tough regardless of increased scores. Still, I’m sure the improved stats will help. Good luck!
I had no idea that it was REA until after my decision was made and someone informed me of it. I couldn’t withdraw my application after and I was told by an official to just leave it.
And after research, my UChicago decisions would’ve been affected, not the U of M one. UChicago is private while U of M is public. Thank you both for your advice and I guess we’ll see what happens.
Your ECs are pretty solid (as long as you’re applying to the medical field) and your GPA is strong.
U Chicago- High match/ Low Reach
Harvard - Reach (solely due to the fact that there are so many applicant who may have stats that are as good as yours or better and apply here)
Your ACT score is a bit low, but your EC’s and academics are both strong and focused, which should help you a lot.
UChicago - Low reach
Harvard - Reach (it’s reach for everyone, blah blah, you know the deal)
