• LEADERSHIP
I was elected the School Captain of my school for the academic year 2008-2009. As a captain I had to ensure discipline, encourage participation, and deal with everyday problems of the student body. As a representative of the students, I was expected to bridge the gap between the student body and the administration.

In 2008, I did a course of French from Alliance Francaise. DELF is an official qualification issued by the French Ministry of Education to certify French language proficiency of foreign students.

• “MADDAD” Hindi for "Help"
In 2006, I co-founded an organization called "Maddad". It is a non-profit organization which aims at addressing modern day issues, and speaking out against unethical or immoral actions of the people in power.
One of our successful campaigns included a rally against the poor implementation of plastic bag laws, according to which the use of plastic bags in the city is banned. The Chief Minister of Delhi, not only applauded us for our constant efforts to make people aware of the importance of standing up for what you believe in, but also awarded us with a “ letter of appreciation.”

Thank you so much. :)

I would take the SAT again; it’ll help your chances. Since you’re not applying for aid, you have a better chance. However, the Ivies and Duke are always a crapshoot, so trying to chance it is hard.
If you get 2250+, I would say that the Ivies are a low to mid reach (they always are), same with Stanford and Caltech, and your best chances are at UC Berkeley, Swarthmore, Amherest, and Harvey Mudd. Good luck!

I’m a 2015 applicant, so i cannot take the SAT again. :(

and thanks.

Is it unrealistic to expect to get into any of these colleges with a 2100 SAT?

Well, I’m not sure what considerations Ivies give to international applicants, but I’m confident you will get into one or more of your desired schools.

Thanks. I’ll be crazy happy if I get into any one of these schools.:)

I’d love if some senior members of CC or some Indians could chance me. :]

anyone? .

you probably have a good chance at Berkeley…

I think you havea good chance of getting into these schools, although your SAT is a little low for them. Ivies are always unpredictable though, as is Duke and UChicago and a few other places. Good luck either way.

Chance me?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1072869-what-do-you-think-my-chances.html</a></p>

As a domestic applicant, you would be competitive at UChicago, Berkeley, Amherst, Swarthmore and Harvey Mudd College, perhaps even Cornell. You suffer a heavy burden, however, by being an international candidate, especially from Asia: Not only are a smaller number of international applicants accepted, you’re competing with the best students out of a 2.5 billion population, while we are competing with the best out of 300 million.

As a consequence, your application may well rest on how you painted yourself as being different in your essays and how great your letters of recommendation were. Most of these top schools are willing to trade off a few statistical points to gain a distinctive experience or point of view.

Good luck! But with your acceptance at UIUC already in hand, you will be fine – UIUC’s a top school, in engineering at least, albeit a bit too big (35,000 students). You could do well at UIUC if the others don’t come through and get into one of your top choices for graduate school, when you will already be here and be competing as a domestic applicant.

Your SAT score is good enough for Berkeley, but I don’t know if that helps you much considering you’re an international applicant.

Ivies, Amherst, Duke are reaches, whereas HYPMS are high reaches since you don’t really have major accomplishments or awards to make your application stand out, especially as an international applicant. You have a good chance at UC Berkeley, HMC, Swarthmore, and UChicago. Any way you can get that Chemistry up at 700+? Good luck!!!

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1087407-chance-me-berkeley-stanford-ivies-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

Unfortunately, given the extreme competition for spots among international applicants, especially in India, you are looking at all reaches. That doesn’t necessarily warrant a sweep of denials but I wouldn’t be particularly optimistic. Although, I did think the handball EC was interesting, so you never know!

I already have acceptances from University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, Georgia Tech, and UIUC now, so I’m all right. This particular thread mentions only my reach schools. If I’m accepted to any one of these 15 places, I’d give up GT, UMich, UIUC any day!

Thanks original thought. The competition from India is crazy. If I don’t get into my reaches, I just might take a year off, take my SATs again, and apply next year. :)

Thanks Lovelybones. Unfortunately, since I’m a 2015 applicant, I cannot retake my SATs.

Thanks LoremIpsum. I understand how severely my chances are affected when I apply as an international student. I’ve tried my best to write good essays, but you never know. I’ll just keep my fingers crossed. But I think if I don’t get into any of these reach schools, I’d probably attend UMich or GAtech over UIUC. (?)

Thanks SillyStokey92. I know my SATs are too low for these schools. I wish my GPA, and my class ranks make up for my abysmal SATs.

I’ll chance everyone who just chanced me.
thanks, and keep the chances coming. :)

To everyone who’s thinking that I don’t have safeties, let me just tell you that I’ve already been accepted to my safeties/matches, so this thread includes only the colleges which are anything but matches.

SoHopeless, you’ve done well to cover yourself with a wide range of options. There’s only upside for you now!

What’s your intended major? UIUC beats the pants off of your other schools in computer science. I don’t know about other areas of engineering, however, since I didn’t research it. Certainly the weather during winter will be nicer at Georgia Tech.

That’s an awesome profile!

That music achievement is seriously awesome!

But there is a problem. Instead of showing so many activities, if you had shown great achievement in few areas, you would have been an outstanding kid, but anyways you are awesome. I won’t be surprised to see you at HYPMS!

Your ECs are good enough but I’m not too sure about your SATs. It would be ideal to have each section 700+. Hopefully your essays made up for the weaknesses in your application and you’re guaranteed in at at least one of these schools  Keep in mind they look at you as one package so don’t let one or two things bog you down!

Nice profile. Good chances. I agree with SATdestroyer about your chances.

DreamsUnlimited, thank you for those kind words. I know that depth>breadth, but I couldn’t have eliminated any of these activities from my application, since I had spent a lot of time doing them.
Best of luck to you too, assuming you’re a 2015 applicant too.

SATdestroyed, I know my SATs are too low for the colleges I’m applying to do. But I can’t do anything now. Call it bad time management, since I had to take the SAT once more, but couldn’t because of exams and other stuff. I was scoring 2300+ in my practice tests, but just wasn’t able to take the exam! So I’m mentally prepared to take a gap year, and apply next year with better scores.
Thank you. :)

Thanks, itsmylife99.

Keep the chances coming, folks! :)

Cornell should be a definite reach. Good chances here. As well as Berkeley.
