Chance an International plss! (how much chances do I have for my 'reaches'?)

Please chance me for my dream schools. I've narrowed to list into the 'reach' colleges.

Assuming that the essay and recommendations are great.. what are my chances for:
Cornell (ED?)
Northwestern
CMU
WashU
Duke
JohnHopkins
Mcgill

Ethnicity: Thai
Gender: F
Possible Major: Operations Research or Industrial Engineering

5 AP Classes so far.. 9 by the end of senior year.. scored 4 -5 on all tests

Took Math lessons for more than 9 years
Took Chinese lessons for more than 5 years
Took French lessons for 4 years
Took computer programming for 3 years

Problem: No hooks? Not much awards. (school hardly gives any)

Your stats are great. You should be looking at schools like Columbia and the such. Your too good for Cornell (and to be honest, Cornell doesn’t deserve some of the brilliant students that it gets.)

I’d say you have good chance at getting into most of them. You should do 2 more SAT2 tests that aren’t math, though.

really? Compared to all the people on this site who got into those schools, I believe that my stats does not match them at all. plus, hardly any of my EC shows interest in Engineering or Math (which i am really interested in)

They give breaks to internationals when it comes to EC’s because they know that some of the activities that you may be able to participate in the US are not always available in foreign countries. Although the international applicant pool is usually more competitive and has a lower acceptance rate, the decisions to accept international students rest almost entirely on how goo their stats and essays are, although having lots of EC’s definitely won’t hurt.

I recommend you show your readiness for an engineering major by taking the SAT2 physics and chemistry tests.

BTW, I didn’t know you were applying to Cornell as an engineering major. I take back what I said; they have some of the strongest engineering and architecture programs out there. But, I still think you would be doing yourself a disservice by not applying to Harvard or Columbia, though.

^ I am not that optimistic. I suppose a decent shot at all of the above schools (and the OP has pretty much ranked your schools in order of difficulty of admissions), but aiming for MIT and the like is a bit too much of a reach, considering internationals who get in (especially from Asia) are almost always international Olympiad winners.

^ by ‘decent’ shots… is it a match or a reach?

Johns Hopkins

I’d say you have the best chances at WashU, CMU, and McGill. The others are even more competitive for international students. Admission might not be based so much on ECs as on test scores and essays. You might want to improve your SAT score (get a super score) although it is already very good and do well on a science SAT II. Simply put the lack of awards for an international applicant is sort of pulling you down.

decent chances for all, esp since you are from thailand (kinda underrepresented i would say)… you should take SAT2s though

edit:
school type: medium-size private international school
will it decrease or increase my chances?
One of the reasons for my lack of awards is that all national competitions are competed in Thai language which does not reflect my school’s curriculum. Also, my school provides no activities such as UN models. (Only 4 -5 larger international schools provide it)
