I am planning to pursue chemical engineering.

Colleges I might/will apply to-

Illinois Institute of Technology
Ohio State University
Iowa State University
Drexel University
Michigan State University
Arizona State University
University of Arizona
The University of Iowa
University of Massachusetts Amherst
University of Colorado Boulder
University at Buffalo, New York

I will be applying for financial aid.

Would really appreciate if you guys could help me. Thanks in advance!!!

You being an international student will help. I’m not really sure what your grades are when translated into American grades, but it looks to be okay. Your class 11 grades don’t look too great though. I think for the most part, I would say Match, though. Good luck!

In my knowledge an 83% would be like a 3.7 - 3.8 in a 4 point GPA scale.
Also I was wondering if University of Massachusetts Amherst and University of Colorado Boulder gives any financial aid for international students.

If you are an international student, it will be hard to get financial aid form the public schools on your list. The privates may be able to provide you some though. As far as admission, I can only give you an idea about IIT. You are certainly in the upper half of our admit pool.

Public institutions DO NOT offer financial aid to international students; int’l students do not qualify for federal or state financial aid unless you are an eligible noncitizen like a refugee. Just remember that.

“Although international students do not qualify for federal and state financial aid (unless you are an eligible noncitizen)…” from ASU

Thank you xraymancs. @xraymancs I am also very interested in IIT for their reputation and the scholarship amount they offer to international students. I wanted to know about the job prospects in IIT.

@ thank you klouie10133 for the info. But what about getting into the colleges. Do I have a chance? Even though the might not offer me any scholarship my parents will try to manage it but do i have a chance especially in University of Massachusetts Amherst and University of Colorado Boulder?

Rather than looking into public schools, look into private schools. Low-end (but still great) private schools CRAVE international students to add to their campus diversity. It will be MUCH easier for you to receive financial aid at private institutions as well. And when it comes to tuition, remember that for international students, private and public schools have essentially the same tuition price.

But the first thing you need to do is to RETAKE THE SAT. If you weren’t registered for the November one, it’s too late. So in December, retake the SAT and try to score 650+ in CR and Writing. you already have 750 in Math, so if you superscore with 650+ in CR and W your score will be 2000-2050 (which is a VERY competitive score for B+ schools). With a 2000+ SAT, your GPA, and your EC’s, I have little doubt that you won’t get into a good private school.

If you need ANY help with your essays, feel free to email me at klouie10133@gmail . com. I will get back to you ASAP with grammar tips, flow, and topic.

Look into these private institutions (Chemical engineering, assuming 2000+ SAT):

1) Northeastern University (has a GREAT program) ($41,686)
2) Syracuse University
3) Stevens Institute of Technology ($43,561)
4) Worcester Polytechnic Institute ($42,778)
5) IIT ($39,842)
6) Drexel University ($37,505)

These public schools, you have to pay full-tuition, but have GREAT programs.

I agree with the previous posters, you should look to have at least your CR or W up to a 600.

Colleges might doubt your ability in English if CR is low, so you might have to take the IELTS or TOEFL on top the SAT, so getting high will save you some time.

Well, for international students it is always harder but at our recent career fairs we have over 160 employers attending. Given the relatively small size of the IIT student body, this is a good number. Regionally, employers are very aware of our students and many of them find jobs right away. My son graduated in 2010 with an EE degree from IIT, at the height of the recession and found a very good position within a month.

Your SAT scores will have to improve to give you a good chance. Try to bring them near 1850 and higher. Don’t worry too much about writing, but focus on the Critical Reading section more. Good Luck!

Drexel University and University of Arizona should be matches, I know someone who got into Arizona with similar score to yours so I would say you’ll probably get into Arizona
BTW you could try applying for scholarship at University of Arisona, the one I know got one
