Chance and Essay

Rutgers was one of the top colleges on my list, and I am not sure how much of a reach school it is for me. Here is some info about me

New Jersey Resident
SAT - 650 Math 470 CR 600 Writing
ACT- taking in december

I think my CR went up in the November test because I answered a lot more questions and vocab, where I was weak in, seemed a lot easier.

GPA UW - 3.4 GPA Weighted/Cumulative Average - 93

Wrestling 4 years, 3 varsity letters
Science Olympiad 2 years
Played Trumpet for 5 years, Moved to Euphonium for 4, Learned Trombone for a year, Piano for 5 years. Concert Band in School for 4 years, Jazz band for 3 years.
Volunteer Group - Volunteering at Animal Shelter. Did service in the summer until now. Going to be much more actice in the club until I graduate because I enjoy the club. Also did some service projects in Camden.

Class rank top 30%. Some courses I took, not counting electives
Freshman - Biology A, Pre-Algebra A, World Cultures A, Latin I, Concert Band I, English I A
Sophmore - Global Science A, U.S. History I A, Geometry A, Algebra 2 A, Latin II, Concert Band II, English II A
Junior Year - English III Honors, U.S. History II Honors, Chemistry A, Prec-Calculus A, Latin III, Concert Band III
Senior Year - Physics CP, Calculus CP, English IV Honors, Latin IV, Concert Band IV

Scheduling at my school completely changed my senior year, Which messed up which class I could take. Two honors courses were available my Sophmore year, Geometry and U.S. History. The AP and Honors started to appeared in my Junior and Seniour years. A Level my Freshman-Junior year is the level just below Honors and Ap, above 2 or 3 other levels. A level is basically CP courses.

This is some basic stuff. And about the essay. How much would it hlep me in admissions? I am a good writer, just don't know how much it will assist me. I tried to focus on myself and how I would fit in, hopeing it isn't selfish, and how it can benefit me, basically what it is asking.

I don't know my chances but if I didn't think I had a chance I wouldn't apply. Any other info needed I can get. Specifics, etc.

APPLY! In my opinion you have a good chance because you are in-state. If you are able to bring up your critical reading score a bit, it might help you out even more. Put don't let the score bother you too much

Don't feel down. There are kids from my school who got into Rutgers with a 3.3 GPA and SAT scores of 400-500 on each section. Just as long as you are applying to the School of Arts and Science, then I think you have a good chance. It is not that much of a reach, since 58% of applicants are accepted (assuming that you are talking about the New Brunswick campus).

Oh yeah, and write the essay, no matter what! Even though it says on the website that you don't have to write it, WRITE! The way I think of it is that if you do write an essay, it shows the people over there at Rutgers that you are interested. Through the essay, they are able to learn more about you.

Did you send in your application and transcript yet? I would make sure that you do so by the end of this week since the priority deadline is December 1. Since it is rolling admissions, you might even get an acceptance letter before New Years! I can't guarentee that though, but I hear that people are already being accepted to Rutgers.

I'm waiting for my decision still, but I think that's because my counselor just sent my transcript out the other day :)

So, basically: APPLY! It can't hurt to. But I think you have a good chance my friend. Just try and submit the application soon. And yes, send the essay

Just waiting to finish up my essay and to collect my last college recommendation from somebody outside of school. Will probably get it around by the end of this weekend.

Good luck. u have a pretty close SAT score to mine but higher GPA. but my extracurricular has a strong music part but alot of leadership.

The SATs killed me and I wish I found out abotu my Volunteer group earlier so I would have more hours to show them. My ACT scores might be better than my SATS. For one it has no vocab, where I got murdered on the SAT. I took a practice test and it seemed much easier to me than the SAT.

Did you get in SiperScro?
