Chance at Aerospace at Cal Poly?

Hey guys,
I have a couple of questions about the Cal Poly application. First is that my middle school was on a trimester system so do I still put my middle school grades as semester grades? Next, I took community college courses over the summer after my sophomore and junior years. During the summer after my sophomore year I took an AP Calculus AB course and got a B. However when I went into my junior year I took AP Calc BC and got an A both semesters and passed the AP exam. Will I still have to put this community college course in my apps? Also after my junior year, I took a computer science course which at the end I tried to drop but ended up receiving an F. I am really worried that this especially will ruin my GPA if I have to include it. I talked to one of the admissions officers that came to our school and she said that I don’t. But then I emailed Cal Poly admissions and they said I had to enter all A-G courses which computer science is one. How much will this hurt my app? I really don’t want to put it bc it’ll taint my application but I know that if I don’t and I find out that I had to I could get my app rescinded. What should I do?
Also, could you let me know my chance of acceptance into the Aerospace program at SLO?
My Stats are below.
Thank You for your help!

Did you take the computer science class at a JC or at your high school?

If the computer science grade is included on your high school transcript, then it will be seen. After you commit to the university (ANY university), your transcript information is formally reviewed and verified. If you have inaccurate information, they will re-calculate admission qualifications with the correct information. If you are still an acceptable candidate, it probably won’t affect your acceptance. Long story short, DON’T knowingly provide false or incomplete information. It will not change the outcome.

If the computer science class was at a JC, universities can check on a student on the National Student Clearinghouse (studentclearinghouse.org). I’m not sure of the requirements or protocols for initiating a search. Someone else will have to speak to that. I don’t know if universities routinely run checks on their first-time freshman applicants.

  1. My son’s Middle school grades were by trimester but all A’s so I reported them as semester grades. In the past, SLO never asked for Middle school transcripts to verify, again it may different this year. Call admissions to confirm but other posters have gotten conflicting information.
  2. If the community college courses are listed on your HS transcript then you should be fine. Just report them on your application. If not, you still report them on your application but once accepted and enrolled, you will need to send the community college and HS transcripts. It is important that what you self reported matches the official transcripts.

The distinction is academic since you’re above 5000, but I calculate your MCA at 5443, not 6918.

I can’t see how the B in Calc and the F in CS won’t both ultimately be discovered. That said, I don’t think either will ruin your chances. Your MCA should still be high with those grades calculated into your GPA. The course you failed isnt a requirement. The 700 points for being at a Partner School smooths a lot of bumps.

Recalculate your CSU GPA and then rerun your MCA. I bet you’re still very competitive.

BTW, did you inform them that you are retaking CS? That may mitigate the F. Again, I don’t think It’ll matter.

Good luck.

Thank you for the info!

I tried to post a thumbs up emoji. Alas, no go.
