I am considering a CS major, do you guys think Emory has a good CS department? And what is my chance at Emory and the scholarships? And what are other CS schools I could apply to?

I can’t comment on the quality of the computer science program at Emory, but I will try to estimate your chances. It seems like you took rigorous courses and got pretty decent grades. In my opinion, you should retake the SAT because a 1400 is kinda low. If you improve your SAT I think you have a good shot.

If you increased your SAT and applied ED, you have a decent shot. Can’t say for sure about RD. But if you are going to rely on Financial aid, you should definitely apply in RD and not commit to anything if you can’t afford it.

I have heard that computer science at Emory is adequate but nothing special. You can get a much better CS education at somewhere like Georgia Tech for a cheaper price.

@PotorTen
The CS department is good. Hack ATL is hosted on Emory’s campus every year, which is a Entrepreneurial CS/ Engineering event. The CS department is small about 25 students in each class, but around 5-10 are Silicon Valley hires so odds are in your favor.
For Financial Aid however, you would need to apply RD so your SAT needs to increase. The avg was a 1475 this year so you might want around a 1500. You being a CS major will help in admissions because of less competition.

@VANDEMORY1342 does emory admit by major though? Most people end up switching their major, so it wouldn’t be reliable.

@Dontskipthemoose Well they don’t formally do that, but I’m sure they would keep that in mind and it could potentially help.

@VANDEMORY1342 I doubt it. There is so much turnover in majors, especially in STEM.
