Chance at Ivy League?

I am a junior who would like to get major in International Relations/Political Science at an Ivy League school. My stats are as follows:

GPA: (unweighted) 3.72

SAT: 690V/580M (but I'm taking prep class & plan to take again)

ACT: 30

School: One of the top 5 in the Utah in an upper-middle class area

Child of Alum: i wish.....

Economically disadvantaged: no

Minority: no

Freshman: Honors English (the only honors class offered this year), !/2 year Algebra II (had to go down to Geometry at request of teacher), Earth Science, Spanish III, Geography, Computer Tech

Sophmore: AP European, AP European Writing Lab, Honors Biology, Honors English, Algebra II, French I, II, & III (discovered I had an amazing proficiency lol), Health Ed II

Junior: AP American, AP Biology, AP Art History, Honors English, French IV, Accounting I & II, AP American Gov't, Spanish IV

Senior: (planned) AP English, AP French, AP Spanish, Genetics (a highly sought after class in the highest funded science department in the state), internship with UT democratic senator

Please tell me: can i get into the Ivies, Georgetown, or Stanford? Thanx for all the help!!!

Oh i completely forgot the EC's:

Co-founding member of Viemont Young Democrats (11,12)
International Club (10,11,12)
Spanish Club (11,12)
French Club (11,12)
Eagle Scout

Soooo sorry, one more thing:

Junior and Senior Commitees

ummm...the ivies demand a lot more
im sorry but i dont think there is anything in your app that will separate you from the other applicants
the only thing that can help you are outstanding recs from teachers and the most paaionate and moving essay in the whole applicant group
hope you have some safties :S

i really hope u get a much higher score on your future tests, if you want to go to stanford. i had great ECs and recs, with a mediocre score (a little better than yours) but i got rejected straight out. so good luck

u had earth science......why did u take 2 years of bio???? not getting into an ivy isnt the worst thing in the world....i used to want to go to Dartmouth but now i realize i dont want to study 8+ hours a day......besides those places have no hot chicks!!!!!

Because you should DEFINITELY pick your college based on the availabilty of hot chicks who are willing to put out. Definitely.

OP: To be viable at any Ivy, you're going to have to raise your scores, SAT will look better so I'd concentrate on that if I were you. Based on excurr., I'd say that HYPS are a long shot; if you can get those scores up, the lesser Five and Georgetown are probably going to be about 50/50.

your ecs all look a little suspect because all of them but one were started in 11th grade...that usually gives admcoms a pause. your gpa and SATs are low, and your curriculum is average/good. i would put you in the bottom 25% of the applicant pools at most of the ivys, if not all...but dont be discouraged. dont apply to these schools just for the name, becuase that would be a waste of your time, but find a favorite or two, apply there, and maybe things will turn out well. good luck.

You are from Utah tho, that will certainly help.

To answer a few of your questions, at my school honors biology was a prerequisite to AP Biology, Earth Science was the only science class offered to freshman at my school, and my school has few ec's so i had to wait until i could drive to other schools to join theirs. I am not so much interested in Harvard and Yale but I would be more interested in Georgetown or Brown. I know the Ivies are traditionally conservative so would it be in my best intrest to write my essay on being gay? It certainly is my most passionate subject...

Are you kidding?! The Ivies are surging hotbeds of liberalism and progressive ideas. The admissions couselors would love that you write on a topic you feel passionate about (i.e. being gay), than writing on a topic you think they'd want to read.

Best of luck! :D

Some Ivies are traditionally more conservative, though - i.e. Princeton is classified as 'conservative', even though the majority of voters went with Kerry last election.

If you're looking for one of the best IR programs, why not consider Tufts?

"besides those places have no hot chicks"

Ivies have plenty of attractive women, actually.

To the OP: Your SAT's are indeed lacking, but your ACT looks fine. The GPA is a little low as well, but you might as well apply. It's possible...

It will be tough at the Ivies, so pick good safeties

Indeed. Also, don't bother applying to HYP. Maybe Cornell ;)

Ugh!!! Does it make a difference that I am taking the hardest classes at my school? And will schools weight my GPA? As my schoold doesn't, I am barely in the top 15% of my class, being upstaged by cheerleaders with classes ranging in difficulty from child development to remedial math. And would early college courses in political science and international relations improve my chances?

tore you can say wut u like about hotties at hyp but seriously hot girls tend to go to schools where they can show off their bodies more like university of florida instead of...you know negative 40 degrees at dartmouth or some crazyness

Don't stereotype cheerleaders as being ditzy valleygirls. Three cheerleaders from my school got into Penn.

But yeah, it does stink that people who breeze thru unchallenging track 4 classes have higher GPA's than someone who is toiling thru all honors/AP classes.

It's a great idea to take courses in poli sci and int'l relations at a cc and it signals to the admissions office serious interest in the field.

no offense but u have tiny chance, if any.
