Chance at JHU, WashU in St. Louis, and then some! (Kinda long :(!)

<p>Chance me at Johns Hopkins, WashU in SL, Boston College, Brown, and Northeastern (safety) :)!</p>

<p>I go to an extremely large & highly competitive public school (each graduating class of 500+ students... 3 to Harvard, 7 to Princeton, and some others. That's what I remember off the top of my head). Our school doesn't weight grades and doesn't rank. Thankfully. I can't even estimate what my rank would be. I honestly have no idea, really. </p>

<p>Freshman (3.2 GPA):
Hon Algebra II
Hon Earth Science
Literature I
World Hist I
Basic Art I
French I
Programming I</p>

<p>Sophomore (3.6 GPA):
Hon French II
Hon Geometry
Literature II
World History II
Programming II
Novice Debate</p>

<p>Junior (3.7ish):
AP US History (anticipate 5)
AP Chemistry (anticipate 5)
Hon Literature II
Adv/Hon PreCalc
Hon French IV (skipping a year 0_o)
Varsity Debate</p>

<p>Senior (Potential Courseload, not finalized yet):
AP Calculus BC
AP English Literature
Varsity Debate
AP Economics or AP Psychology or AP Euro (Haven't decided which, yet)
AP Physics (B or C, haven't decided which, yet)
AP French Literature or AP Computer Science (Haven't decided which, yet)</p>

<p>SAT - 2300</p>

<p>SAT II's:
Biology M - 760
Chinese w/ Listening - 800
Literature - 770
World History - 740</p>

<p>SAT II's to be taking:
French
Physics
Chemistry
US History
(I anticipate scores to be in the high 700's as I'm also taking the AP courses for them?)</p>

<p>AP's (self studied):
AP World History
AP Biology
Don't know my scores, but I assume at least 4 or 5 for each.
I will also be very likely taking Physics, Calculus, and French exams. Dunno about the others, we'll see when senior year rolls around 0_o. I'd anticipate a 4 or 5 on all of them.</p>

<p>Summers:
5 wks @ Dartmouth Debate camp (Soph year)
7 wks @ Michigan Debate camp (Junior year)</p>

<p><strong>ECs</strong>
Vball:
JV Volleyball (9)
Managing Varsity vball team after I didn't have opportunity to try out (10)</p>

<p>Debate:
JV Policy Debate (10)
Varsity Policy Debate (11, 12)
40-ish community service hours total too volunteering @ various debate tournaments...
Many more unlogged hours raising money for debate team but doesn't count as community service according to school policy as we're not allowed to earn money if it's CS (~$8,000+)
Should I mention the hours on an app or in an interview, or is it sketchy, since I don't have many documented hours?</p>

<p>Science Olympiad:
-Varsity Forensics (10, 11)
-Varsity Health Science (10, 11)
-Varsity Bridge Engineering (10) </p>

-1st @ State Champs for Var. Bridge Engineering (10)
-1st @ State Champs for Var. Health Science (11)
-2nd @ State Champs for Var. Health Science (10)
-5th @ Local Science League (30 schools) for Foren, HS (10)
-2nd @ Local Science League for Bridge (10)
-3rd @ State Champs for DOE</p>

<p>-State Debate Championship - Semifinalist (10)
-State Debate Championship - 1st (11)
-Northeast Debate Championship - Semifinalist (11)
-Harvard Invitational - Semifinalist (11)
& various debate tournament awards for speaking & etc (semis, quarters, etc.)
Thought the ones listed above were the most meritable.</p>

<p>Does this count/Would you put this on your app?:
Debate Invitationals received for Harvard & Northeast Championships (10, 11)</p>

<p>I can write a pretty darn good essay :D.
*I'm not sure how my recs will turn out, really. I don't anticipate one from my debate coach, but I'm pretty sure that my science coach can put in an excellent one. I'm also pretty certain that I can get an excellent rec from at least two other teachers. **How many recs do you need?
*
*Hard of Hearing/Deaf
*Asian living in Northeast</p>

<p>Thanks for chancing :)!</p>

<p>Your standardized tests are solid, but your GPA is not that good. Your extracurriculars are solid, but seeing how GPA is the most important thing on an app., I say in at BC, NE, Wash-U, rejected at JHU + Brown.</p>

<p>Oh, and you need 2 recs from your teachers and 1 from your guidance counselor</p>

<p>JHU- High Match. 50/50
Wash in SL- I would say in. Match
BC- Definitely In. Low match
Brown- Reject
Northeastern- Safety. In</p>

<p>wash u, shaky…brjown shaky…john hopkins good, BC good, others in like flint</p>

<p>I think that the only places where there will be trouble is JHU and Brown. Your ECs and SAT scores are top-notch, but that GPA of yours will hold you back. I think that reject at Brown (sorry), maybe a shot at JHU (you’re middle of fence), and in at the others. Best of luck! :)</p>

<p>Thanks, everyone
Yes, I have a real problem of only doing just enough to get by T.T (solid A-'s)</p>

<p>Ah, forgot to throw in BU in there.
Chance me at BU, if anyone else sees this post? :D</p>

<p>Bump 10char ^__^</p>

<p>Why don’t you try schools that don’t look at Freshman GPAs? (All UCs, Princeton, Stanford)? I think GPA is your weakness, but you show improvement which is favorable too. I don’t think an invitation would count on an application if you never participated in the event. Why are you taking so many SAT-2’s? I thought you could only report six on the common application and ivies want 3…Taking that many would probably be a waste of money if you can take subjects you are really good in and shoot for 750+ on every subject.</p>

<p>Johns Hopkins- high match,
WashU in SL- high match,
Boston College- match,
Brown- reach,
Northeastern- safety
BU- safety</p>

<p>Thanks for the tip, ajsz =). I’ll start looking at schools that don’t count freshman grades as heavily.
In that case, could you chance me for UC Berkley, UCLA, Princeton, and Stanford? Thanks!</p>

<p>I didn’t know that ivies only wanted 3… thanks for letting me know that :).
Is the 3 thing a “recommended” number, or the absolute limit that they’ll accept?</p>

<p>Bump 10char ^___^</p>

<p>Bump 10char :P</p>
