chance at Michigan(management), please help!

I am a Canadian(non-finacial aid), because didnt care about college before so very lack at EC.... But I am still trying for Michigan. please predict my chance so I can have a better idea or just give me some advice, i ll be very appreciated!

SAT I: Math:800(for sure even I havent take it)
Writing: 750(approximately)
Critical Reading: 750(approximately)
SAT II: Chinese: 800(for sure, its my first language^^)
Math II: 800(for sure, its my strength)
Physics: 800(for sure, its my strength too^^)
French:750~800(third language, not bad but not for sure perfect)
Chemistry:750~800(Im not bad at it but not perfect)
school rank: 10~15/500 (2~3%)

ED: 3years school Prefect Board;
4years social volunteering;
3years hospital volunteering;
3years badminton school team
2years debate club(not in it yet, but most likely I ll make it)

applying schools:
Michigan(management)(main target)
Penn(Wharton)(another main target)
University of California Berkeley(management)(sub-target)
NYU(business)(safety)

Because Im in Canada, I dont have much information. So if you can tell me approximately how much chance I will have for the admissions for these colleges or suggest me something, that will be really helpful for me and I ll be really appreciated^^

I think I will do a mentoring from next year for 1 year for volunteer

assuming w/o ur grades
Michigan(management)(main target)- reach/good
Penn(Wharton)(another main target)- reach
University of California Berkeley(management)(sub-target)- reach
NYU(business)(safety)-good

laxgirl07, I am new in CC, does reach mean that I am most likely OK for the admission?

reach means that it will be hard for you to get admitted to the particular school.

So I have almost no chance for Wharton? and Michigan is maybe....

From what I'm reading here you haven't taken any of these tests yet.

And from your broken English writing here, I have no idea how you expect to score a 750 on the SAT writing section.

I'm not going to give chances based on a bunch of test scores that are all somebody's dream. I suggest that you come back after you've taken a few of the tests.

well, i just wanna know how much chance i ll have if i have the scores

Okay, let's presume you score exactly what you are predicting:

SAT I: 750CR/800M/750W
SAT II: 800/800/780/770
and that your rank is 12/500

In this case your AI is 226.5 and your rank is 8 out of 9, meaning you probably have at least a 50% chance at Penn (Wharton), a 70% chance of getting into Berkeley (and about a 30% chance of getting one of their business school spots as a freshman--note that most people apply and get into the Haas school of business at UC Berkeley as juniors), a 80% chance of getting into Michigan (but once again a lower chance of direct admit to the business program--maybe 40% here--since they usually admit sophomores or juniors to the business program), and about a 85%-90% chance of admittance to NYU Stern.

Calcruzer, thanks a lot, i know my english s not good but at least i have a clear idea about what i can be and where i can go~

liangshengtm,

You're welcome to ask more questions of me directly once you've taken your tests--just send them to me directly via a private email if you want.

I wish you success. I know learning English is difficult, so I admire your efforts in this regard, and also towards doing well enough to go to one of the best schools in the country.

Good luck to you.

Calcruzer

Liangshan, if you can break the 750 on the math and the 650 on the verbal, given your top 3% class rank, I'd say your chances of getting into Michigan-Ann Arbor are good. However, nobody has a good shot at Ross straight out of high schoo. I'd say that Michigan is a match for you, but Ross is a reach. However, once at Michigan, assuming you do well in your classes at the University, your chances of successfully transfering into Ross are good.

how about if i apply as a freshman but by early admission?do i have a chance?
and if i want to get into Wharton or Michigan Ross on second year, do I need a significant mark in my first year(better than my high school stardard)? or just keep the same pace as my high school?

Michigan does not have EA/ED options. You can only apply regular decision to Michigan. Applying EA to Wharton doesn't siginificantly aid your chances either. Try to remember that Wharton and Ross are 2 of the top 4 undergraduate business programs in the North America. The competion for those programs is very intense. As for transfering into Ross, I'd say if you can maintain a 3.6+ GPA at Michigan, your chances of transfering into Ross are good. But maintaining a 3.6+ GPA at Michigan is not easy.

how about if I go to NYU Stern and then transfer to Michigan? will I have less chance than transfer to Ross from another Michigan major?

Why would you want to transfer from one top 5 BBA program like Stern to another top 5 BBA program like Ross? Yes, Michigan's camous is more lively and more collegiate than NYU's, but in terms of academics and job placement, Ross and Stern are almost identical, with Ross having a slight edge in non-Wall Street related jobs.

At any rate, it is easiest to transfer into Ross from Michigan than NYU. In fact, it is easier to transfer into Ross from Michigan than from any other university. Close to 100% of Ross students were already enrolled at Michigan before successfully transfering into Ross.

By the way, if you are good enough to get into Stern, chances are, you are good enough to get into Ross once enrolled at Michigan.

Alexandre, could you tell me the top 5 BBA program in your mind and give me some brief recommendations about each of them for me(since you know my test scores and my ECs, so you can tell me like how much chance I have and some other suggestions like Wall Street)

Generally speaking, the top BBA programs are Wharton, Ross, Sloan (MIT), Stern, Haas (Cal) and McIntire (UVa).

Other good programs include McCombs (UT-Austin), Marshall (USC), Kenan Flagler (UNC-Chapel Hill), and Tepper (Carnegie Mellon).

Finally, Kelley (Indiana University), Guizueta (Emory), McDonough (Georgetown), Olin (Washington University-St Louis) and Mendoza (Notre Dame) are also very highly regarded.

for the difficulty of the admission, Stern is the easiest one to get in in the top 6 right?

Yes and no. Sloan, Stern and Wharton admit students directly into their business programs and of those three, Stern is indeed the easiest to get into. Haas, McIntire and Ross usually expect students to apply once enrolled at the university. In that sense, they aren't a sure bet.
