Chance at UCLA....

I am a white male student from a rural town in south west Virginia. My father went to UCLA and my parents are originally from Los Angeles. After visiting with UCLA, I instantly fell in love with it and am applying there for fall of 2008.

Heres how I stand....I have a 4.0 unweighted and a 4.5 weighted or something like that.

I am a full IB diploma student and this is the toughest schedule at our school. Our school doesn't offer that many APs. We are more IB. My class has 30 students in it and 6 are in the IB diploma program.

I have good ECs including tennis, soccer, a few organizations that I have put countless hours into, as well as numerous awards for writing, national honor society.

I have not yet taken my SAT IIs as I am taking them this saturday.

Heres where the catch is. My SAT I is not that good. It is a 1300 Math and Verbal and a 1930 with writing.

Chance me....

Sorry, can't chance you but good look on the SAT IIs this weekend. I'm taking mine as well :].

I also can't chance you, but-

I'm in the same boat as you, although I'm in-state.

I have a 1920 SAT I, but I applied to the engineering school at UCLA. I really don't think I'm gonna get in although I would like to, it being my first choice because my SAT I is 200 points lower than where it should be... I sort of feel stupid for applying, unless they really like my essays, and if my Math II and Chemistry scores this Saturday are good.

Oh well. I recognize it's a high reach don't laugh, but I'll be happy at UCSD, UCD, or anywhere else.

Good luck to you, though :D, and to everyone else.

Your 4.0 UW GPA will outweigh your SATs. I think UCLA will be impressed with your tough schedule, BUT since you're out of state, it becomes a coin flip.

Good luck however!

Lol, I meant I can't chance you because I'm not extremely familiar with UCLA.

I really hope it is more than just a coin flip.... :-O

Do you think that it might depend on how I do on the SAT II's or are those more for placement in classes? (This is what I have heard in the past)

Sorry, not a coin flip. Your 1900 SAT is a little below the 2000ish average for UCLA, but your 4.0 UW will undoubtedly help you. Try not to worry and write the best essay you can!

I know a few people who actually put their address as a relatives house in california in order to be considered instate and have a better chance... just a suggestion.

I know of a person with almost the same exact stats as you who got into ucla.

Not tell the truth? Thats just not me. I want to get in myself. Not get in by lying. I hope I wrote some good essays. :-D Any other opinions?
