So USC actually has a lot of sentimental value as one of the schools that motivated me to go to college and my top choice. My brother got accepted and I had visited the campus with him. I began improving from a 3.0 gpa in freshman year. By the end of junior year first semester I was up to around a 3.6 cumulative U/W, but there were some personal issues around second semester and my gpa has dropped to around a 3.3. I have a 2200 SAT I, an 800 in chemistry and an 800 in Math II. Typical high school extracurriculars, badminton captain and student council vp for 4 years. Would scheduling an interview better help my chances? Or should I really give up applying at all.

Not applying at all only ensures that you have 0% chance of getting in.

If you really care about going to USC, then you should give it your best shot meaning doing everything you can to stand out, including the interview. You’re obviously intelligent/hard working going by your SAT scores, so be sure to explain why you have a lower gpa in your essay and during the interview if it comes up.

So is it possible I still have a chance at getting in?

If SC is your top choice then apply, just be realistic. Is your application problematic? Yes. Are 2200 SATs and double 800 SATIIs impressive? Yes. Is a yo-yoing GPA a problem? You bet. I suggest taking the essay to address some of the personal issues that are driving your GPA all over the board. It may not be enough, but if you can afford the application fee, I’d certainly rather you take the chance than always wonder what might have been.
