A very important note: I go to an “Early College High School”, meaning I am finishing up all of my high school classes as a sophomore and would start a dual enrollment at the local university (accredited, part of the state university system, the whole shebang) next year. As such, I have even received a 6 out of 6 on the math placement test meant for the normal university freshmen, and would have the opportunity to take classes such as Math 161 – Calc with Analytic Geometry among many other rigorous courses. Would the school recognize that I would be willing to give up an amazing opportunity for an even more amazing opportunity with the BSs?

Edit: A couple things I forgot.

Recommendations: Should hopefully be good. I know my history teacher gave great recs (probably about my character along with my academics, since character is very important to him), and I'm expecting pretty good ones from my math and science. My English teacher may not like me too much as a person, but I work hard in her class and I know she'll recognize this.

Also, my essays talked about future goals, the way I think and how I usually deal with things in a different way, and one of them (Deerfield) talked about an inspiration. I also mentioned my biggest accomplishment, which was writing my first novel and how I wish to publish it, even though English is not my first language.

Also, I believe my interviews went well. My interviewers and I connected fairly well. (I guess you could say I'm a people person, I could talk and talk forever if somebody let me...)

I’m curious, how do you take, like 15 classes a year? Do you go to school for 12 hours everyday?

My thoughts exactly.

SSRS

My school has a combined-course program. This means that I have 5 class periods a day, but during the year teachers cover two courses’ worth of material.

would this be perhaps bard high school/early college in NYC
that is the only school that has this system

@blueraven/exoveerotch
maybe Latin I = first semester and Latin II = 2nd semester just a thought

I was more thinking on EnglishI and then English II and chemistry I and II but the semester thing works. i just saw your response, i see now but don’t you miss details going so fast?

No, I’m not at Bard. There have been quite a few ECs opening up in the US over the past few years. See here: [Early College High School Initiative](http://www.earlycolleges.org)

It does go by very fast, it’s definitely not an easy program. However, I’m lucky enough to have some amazing teachers who work with us and make sure we learn everything we need to learn.

Chances, though, anyone? :p

By the way, what’s SSRS?

Sixty Second Rule Sucks (Copyright 2010 BlueRaven1).

Oh, okay, thanks.

Now, chance me please? :]

Based on your stats I’m assuming that your SSAT score is almost perfect. Is this correct?

She may not have taken it having the PSAT and all.

Oh yeah. Is the score “191” good, anyway?

It’s a 191 out of 240. Not too shabby for a sophomore. Like getting a 1910 out of 2400 on the SAT in 10th grade. On the SSAT last year I had a 2280, 96th percentile. Decided not to retake it once I took the PSAT.

Let’s just say that if I was competing against you, I would be very depressed.

honestly, I wouldn’t consider 191 a particularly strong score. Maybe I’m just judging quite harshly…
You don’t have any activities that you have been committed to for a very long time, and by very long time, i mean started at least before middle school and still continuing. Do you have any arts or sports? Schools generally need much more than just good grades and the large number of classes that your are taking (think about it, students at Andover, i.e., takes about 4-5 classes a semester).
I’m just giving you my dead-honest opinion, sorry if I come off sounding really harsh, but i’d still say that you have a good chance

Skisoccer: Well, I’m competing against some very talented people who depress me, too :stuck_out_tongue: Not to mention there are only a few spots. However, thank you! That makes me feel a little bit better to know my stats are up to good standards.

Exoveerotch: I began martial arts in 5th grade, but HapKiDo in the 7th. My martial arts is my sport, and I focus on music in the arts-area. 4 years of flute isn’t long enough? No, thank you for your honest opinion!

hate to be negative again, but 4 years is not long enough really, I know kids who have been playing an instrument for 10 years and won tons of awards when they are applying to BS. Do the schools you apply to offer martial arts (no idea about that kind of stuff ;)?

Personally, I think you have a good chance. I wouldn’t be intimidated by some of the kids on these boards. This is a very small selection of people applying. You seem to be a very determined person. Obviously no one knows for sure who will get in, but I wouldn’t count yourself out. Also, you don’t have to be a musical prodigy like exoveerotch seems to be implying. Four years is long enough to show that you’re dedicated to your instrument.

Exo: Most of them offer martial arts as say, a club. I know some of them are willing to bring in teachers from the surrounding communities to teach regular classes (SPS did Capoeira a few years back, taught by a local), so I’m hoping I could get something like this going on if I get accepted. I realize it isn’t a sport I could ever be recruited for unless I decide to get extremely serious about TaeKwonDo (My other martial art) (like, junior olympics serious), but I’d rather do something I love and have been doing for years rather than give it up for a sport that’ll look better on my application.

Fimend: Thanks. :] Yes, I’m hoping my dedication and determination will help set me apart. I’m not an American native (although I do have my citizenship), and one of the biggest reasons my parents took the opportunity to work in the US was for a better educational experience for my sisters and I. This would be an incredible opportunity that I know I would not have back in my home country, and one I would take full advantage of.

How have you not taken Bio or Physics? I see a bunch of holes in you’re courses that confuse me.
