Hey guys. Stressing about getting into a great university and was just wondering if I could get some opinions on my chances. If you can think of different colleges for me to apply to, be my guest.

I've been on a few volunteer trips to Nicaragua to help with schools and to donate soccer supplies to the children.

Chairman of a board charged with organizing fundraising for a local nonprofit.

Received a competitive summer internship at a large bio-medical research company in Florida (Scripps Research).

Mom graduated with associates degree from a small community college. Dad never went to college. Pretty much in the lower-middle class. Could NEVER afford a private university without financial aid.

I'm sure there are a host of other things that I can't quite think of at the moment. Anyways, thanks for any help you can give (Will chance back).

Almost forgot the list haha:
Duke ED
Vandy
Cornell
Georgetown
U of Florida
Brown

Duke ED - High match
Vandy - High match
Cornell - High match
Georgetown - Match
U of Florida - Match
Brown - High match/low reach

Really I think you could get into any one of these schools. You have good ECs, test scores, class rank, and GPA. I’m sure that you will probably get accepted to at least half of these schools. Good luck!

Only problem is your sat. Need to increase critical reading and writing to at least 730+, and you should have a pretty good chance at Cornell, duke Ed, and Georgetown, and a decent chance at brown! Good luck! Or your act should be a 34+.

Your stats look great, especially your class ranking. As for your SATs, now that you have a perfect score in Math, really just concentrate on getting your Writing in the 700s and the CR up a bit! And if 10 APs doesn’t catch their eye…lol With your resume, I think your chances of getting into the most competitive universities are very good. Good luck :)

University of Florida- given, you’re in. Duke i think you have a good chance at, same think with Georgetown. The rest I would say are reaches only because they are so selective, they are a crapshoot.

this list is a lot less ambitious than yours, but that’s my chance thread. if you could possibly chance me, that would be great. thanks, and good luck with your application process.

Duke ED-reach (ED will help but still difficult to get into)
Vandy-low reach
Cornell-low reach depending on major
Georgetown-low reach
U of Florida-safety
Brown-reach

It’s hard to chance you without knowing your major because some colleges and universities admit by school. Overall though you have decent shots at most of them but duke and brown are gonna be hard. Applying ED to duke should help. Your SAT and ACT could be raised some and that would help a lot. Good GPA and class rank and course selection. I think that if you apply to Vandy, Cornell, and Georgetown, you should get acceptances from at least 1 of the 3. Good luck!

for the ivies and upper schools you need a 2000+…Your EC’s are good enough and show passion. Your GPA is obviously good and your class rigor is good. You are in the running for sure for most schools (might have trouble getting into Brown and Cornell).

Alright, so your SAT I and ACT aren’t TERRIBLE and don’t REQUIRE the retake you seem super adamant about getting. Honestly, a 32 ACT will get you places. But that being said, if you honestly think you can do better, go for it. Plus, it’s junior year, which is when you should be cracking down on tests anyway. I had a 32 in sophomore year and I was able to pull it to a 35, and I’m quite sure you’ll be able to get a near perfect score if you try.

Now, after those scores go up a bit (and that might not even be necessary), your ECs say a lot about you as a person. They are very focused and show that you truly care about your community. Also, what I like about your ECs is that they are very focused - make sure that, instead of so called “college whoring” and doing a bunch of things last minute, really focus on the things that you’ve done and liked.

Brown should be a reach, but with a solid junior year, it’ll be within grasp. Duke, Vandy, and Cornell are Low Reach/High Match, I think. Georgetown is in high match range, I think, and UF is probably safety. Good job getting this far with your high school resume, you seem to be doing great :)
