Essays

Common app on background of child abuse and my new adopted home. My goal is to present my story in the least whiny way--I know I haven't been through anything compared to other people, but I want to share this story to explain my passion for academics.

UNC essay on my concern with the individualistic nature I perceive in my generation.

Recs

Counselor rec and teacher rec were excellent

Additional rec was sent in by a UNC professor who I have known for about 4 years through a summer institute

*What are my chances for in-state early admission? Weaknesses, strengths, suggestions?
*I want to go to school for foreign studies, what other schools do you suggest?

Sorry for the typos, but I’m really anxious and didn’t reread!

Also, what do you think about my ACT? I know it’s average, but should I still send it in with the low math and science? I’m taking the Oct 11th SAT, should I just send that in instead?

You look like a very strong candidate from your profile presented here.

Your ACT score is in line with the most recent incoming class but below the 50th percentile. The middle 50% range was 28 to 33 with the average being 29.8.

If you take the SAT, submit the scores and the admissions team will consider the best score. Below is an excerpt from the 2013 class profile website:

“In evaluating candidates, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions uses the highest score presented by each candidate on each part of the SAT reasoning and on each subject area test of the ACT. When a candidate submits results from both the SAT and the ACT, the admissions office uses the test with the stronger results.”

Best of luck to you.

If you’re looking for a small scholarship, I would retake the ACT or give the SAT a go. Everything else looks great
