Chance ED?

I will be applying to Cornell ED and I was wondering if I have any chance of getting in.

AP US history score: 4

3.33 GPA weighted 3.8 (took only honors and AP classes, plus electives)

Currently taking: AP Calc BC, AP STAT, AP physics C, Honors English, Honors Engineering, computer programming C++.

Work at a publishing company doing office work. couple hours a week

Volunteered for two summers at a school for blind kids.

Track team JV 1 year

I'm deciding between engineering or economics.

Please let me know what you think.

I think you should consider it a reach. Based on the stats of applicants who were admitted ED last year, Cornell seems to place great emphasis on GPA so a 3.33 UW will definitely not work in your favor. Your ECs are somewhat weak(Slightly better than mine, but I consider my ECs to be the weakest part in my application), and a good number of them are not really related to engineering/economics. If you can write stellar essays get excellent recs from your teachers and your counselor, you might have a chance.

By the way, not to dash your hopes or anything but looking at the stats from last year, virtually no one was accepted with an UW GPA in the low 3s, including URMs. I know that they consider your application holistically and that it's just a number, but I just wanted you to know what you're up against.

I actually think his EC's are fairly strong. He worked at a publishing company + did research. It's just his sports + clubs that are very bad.

However, the 3.3 GPA will hurt you ALOT. Cornell would like to see you challenge yourself, but you pushed yourself too far ( ALL AP'S and Honors) by the looks of it, and that's how Corrnell will view you.

Overall, You have a decent chance, and it certainly is very possible for you.

Hey, I'm also a senior from eastern mass applying ED to Cornell. I live in Malden. PM me if you wanna talk about stuff.
I like your chances, you have done more in terms of job and service than I have. I regret not having an intern-like job.
Here's my app stats in this thread.
