Interested in engineering as a major but not sure yet which area. Leaning toward civil, structural, environmental.

Applying to:
UCB
UCLA
UCSB
UCSD
UCD
UCSC
UCI (maybe)
Cal Poly SLO
Not applying to privates. Also CA resident.
Capped weighted UC GPA? Fully weighted UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
You look like a competitive applicant. The top UC’s are always tough for Engineering. Assuming UCSC Is your low match/safety? UCI and Cal Poly Pomona would be good additions to the list. Best of luck.
You may want to check each campus for your desired majors. For civil engineering, ABET accreditation is important. UCB, UCD, UCI, and UCLA have it for civil. So do 12 CSUs. But UCSB, UCSC, and UCSD do not.
Hi Gumbymom! Thanks for the link. It allowed me to add the college classes which changes things a little.
Unweighted: 3.78
Weighted: 4.26
Weighted & Capped: 4.13
Just trying to figure out if I am even in the ballpark for engineering at the UC’s and if not, am I losing out on my chances to get into some schools by selecting this major. I feel like this is the field I am interested in but not 100% sure which puts me in a difficult position for how to apply to UC’s. I know it’s very difficult and often not possible to switch from a letters & science school into engineering school at a UC rather than vice versa.
Also, does it help being a female?
You are definitely in the ball park for Engineering. Being female will not be a boost for the UC’s and Cal states but could help if you apply to privates. If Engineering is your interest, then apply to one specialty. Switching between Engineering majors is easier than switching into Engineering period. Many of the Environmental Engineering programs are concentrations under Civil Engineering so as stated above ABET accrediting is important.
Not major specific but could help gauge your chances.
Freshman admit rates (2016) for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:
UCB: 14%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 44%
UCSB: 54%
UCD: 58%
UCI: 65%
UCSC: 85%
UCR: 94%
UCM: 96%
Thanks for taking the time to respond! You’ve been very helpful!
