Illinois, Rice, Vanderbilt early decision 2, Duke (all engineering)
The main worry with this application is grades, but can he overcome it to get into these colleges?

The GPA is going to really hurt. Test scores rarely make up a low GPA. Vandy and Duke will be hard to get into with that GPA. But it also depends on the grades of his peers.

Does the fact that he took 9 APs at a hard school help make up for that?
