Chance for Admissions

My name is Uddit Patel, and I am a senior at Aviation High School, but I am doing the fifth year here at this high school. Would that affect my application in any negative way since I am applying for the Class of 2013? Also I was wondering if my application would be looked at with a ACT composite score of 21 with overwhelming leadership skills, and with rigouris high school courses even though I will take them again. Does ACT weigh more than anything else of if that the only thing we didnt do that well and everything is perfect what are the chances of getting into the Acadamy? Also would a C/Colonel in with a Winng Commander position in the AFJROTC effect my chences?

also i have a 4.0 GPA with all honors and AP courses and yes i plan on taking ACT test again. Thanks

If you look on the acad site, you will not be academically qualified or considered as competitive, if your verbal is below 590 or 24 ACT. Keep taking the test until you pass those markers. Your PAR is worth 60% of the score. You have time...keep taking the tests. The AFA superscores and you need to be scholastically qualified to be considered. Even on the candidate login it states that candidates with a nom may not be deemed competitive. In other words, from what I have read on the site you will not go up to the board without those 2 markers. If you look through the USNA threads this is what they refer to as 3 Q (Academically, medically and physically) Make sure you can hit the CFA out of the ball park, which is worth points also. If you can make the markers you will need to have a lot EC's to help in attaining more points

Good luck, and again study...study...study

How do you have a 4.0 GPA, but not break a 1000 SAT equiv. Did you miss bubble?

yea i tink i did...im retaking...i have tooo.......cuz i thought i aced the test

I don't think you can take the ACT or SAT again. I read somewhere that all scores had to be in by Feb 15.

Yes you can take the ACT or SAT again, if you are applying to 2013. I would recommend taking both of the tests. Some people do better on one or the other good luck!

Yeah, I did WAY better on my SAT than my ACT, while my sister was the exact opposite, definitely take both if you can.

Do i have to take both or can i take one because i know i could do better on ACTs

You can take either or/and both the AFA superscore. How do you know you will do better on the ACT? DS took both he got a 33 on ACT and a 1390/1600 SAT. They are very close to equivalent.

He took ACT 1x, and SAT 3X starting in soph. yr.

I know because to me SATs are harder and the ACTs to me are easier in every aspect....even though i dont know how i got a 21 composite...and I took the test my sophomore year too....

Try for both. The AFA will take which ever is best.

It doesn't hurt to do it...it's only 3 hrs out of your life

yes definitely take both, I come from an area where the ACT is pretty much unheard of, thus only about 10 seniors this year took that test and most of us felt it was much easier... but you never know what you can do until you try, if you want USAFA bad enough youve gotta make those small sacrifices like retaking a painful standardized test over and over again until you are satisfied... ;)

I'll be taking the SAT for the 3rd time March 1st... So ya, small sacrifices I guess ;) Just wanted to point something out that I noticed on Collegeboard.com. 66% of applicants submitted SAT scores to the AFA and only 34% submitted ACT scores (pretty sure that there's some overlap between the two though). I don't think the academies prefer any type of standardized test but it seems the SAT is more popular.

Another precious 3 hours of my life (fingers crossed I don't lose too many brain cells), that will hopefully get me into my dream college :) - Definitely worth it

That runs true with most of the US colleges. SAT's are more popular for east coast colleges, and very few students take the ACT. DS only took the ACT for Notre Dame, because most mid-west colleges ask for them. DS would be the overlap because he took both.

If you have taken the SAT and scored well why are you taking the ACT. The AFA will take the best superscore.
