Chance for an international student at UCs state schools (Will chance back plz help)

Hey so I’m an Asian female student applying to college this year. And I’m applying for UCs is because I can go and live with my aunt in San Jose, so I’m looking into 4 schools: San Jose State University, UC East Bay, UC San Francisco and University of San Francisco.

These are all state schools so I guess ECs aren’t as important, but I do have some academic regional prizes and some heavy volunteering (>100 hours) so I won’t be concerning about it much.

However my academic scores are:

SAT 1400 (new) (will take again in October and score should be around 1500)
2 SAT subject tests Chemistry and Math 2 (both expecting 800s)
GPA: 8.9/10 (WES calculated it to be 4.0/4.0 scale)
IELTS 8.0 for English Proficiency

I’m planning to study Computer Science or Economics

If you can help me that would be great and paste your link to your chance below so I can chance you back. Thank you very much.

UC San Francisco is a graduate school and does not accept undergraduates. You might want to look at Santa Clara instead.
University of San Francisco is private. Consider San Francisco State. CS is a tough admit at SJSU and Santa Clara but you do looked qualified. SFSU, East Bay and USF look definiely within Reach.

Thank you very much!

For the record: East Bay is not a UC. It is a California State University. San Jose is also a CSU.

Are you commuting from San Jose into the City? To East Bay?
That will be a very tedious commute.

As an international student, the costs will be at full fees. UC’s are $60K per year. The CSU’s will be $40K. Be aware that living with your aunt does not qualify you for in-state residency.

My aunt said that since I’m living with her I can cut back expense on living on campus and probably only paying the tuition. I’m not really sure how costs work in UCs and USCs

The only CSU that would be commutable would be San Jose state. East Bay is doable but you would be spending several hours on your commute. Santa Clara is private in San Jose so that is an option. USF and SFSU will not be commutable so expect to live on or near campus.

Regarding costs:
East Bay, SJSU and SFSU’s tuition for non CA residents is $7721/ year + $396/unit so for 15 units each semester an additional $11,880 per year not including books/transportation and personal expenses.
This does include an additional $14K/year if you have live on campus.

USF tuition costs are $45,760 not including room/board since commuting would not be an option.

Santa Clara tuition only is $49,233 not including fees and books.

SJSU would be the more affordable choice if you live with your aunt. Do you have a budget?

My parents can only afford for about 15-20k/year so I guess I’m heading for SJSU

You might be able to get some merit aid at Santa Clara or University of San Francisco so worth an application. CSU’s offer no financial aid (merit or need-based) so yes SJSU could be your only option other than schools in your country.
Best of luck

I think you will find SJSU to be at the upper end of your range cost wise. As long as you’ve completed the A-G course list, you would almost certainly be accepted for Econ. CS is more competitive so, it will depend how your GPA translates.
Good luck
