Goals
I want to be a biology Major at Arts and Sciences. Anyone know admissions rate for arts+sciences specifically? How much does applying ED help? This is my first choice, lol-- both parents went to Cornell so they're kinda ****ed.

Chances? :O

darn, they bleeped out p i s s e d, apologies for the “profanity”… also sorry about the title, in my haste I forgot to complete my conspicuous title.

As your record stands at the moment, your chances are very strong. Keep up your grades and don’t blow your essays/recommendations, and I’d say you’ve got about as good a shot as you can get.

thanks, noted.

did you really think that you might not have a chance (i.e. you don’t know how to research schools and compare things like gpa and/or sat/act scores to your own)? or were you just looking for someone to say “congrats, you have a good chance” in order to boost your confidence/ego?

either way, you have an excellent chance

and since i’ve probably been a little harsh on you (probably because so many people post chance threads here on cc b/c they freak out with all the other super-star scholars on cc; if you really want to see what your chances are like, look at school websites and look at students who were accepted/denied from your high school, students who will probably give a better representation of who gets in, since so many cc posters have much, much better resumes than the average applicant), i do apologize somewhat…

in response to your final question, applying ED should help a bit (hey, if you get deferred, you basically get a second chance!), but you must remember that the ED applicant pool will be stronger than the RD applicant pool, so don’t let the higher acceptance rate ED fool you. with that being said, if Penn is your first choice, why would you not apply ED (unless your application won’t be ready in time)? applying ED will help, but don’t expect it to be a “hook” by any means
