How much time do you invest in the school newspaper and literary magazine? If it’s not an absurd amount of time, your EC’s are lackluster. As such, Columbia and Brown are large reaches. However, I would imagine that you have a (reasonably) good shot at Northwestern and the University of Chicago.

I spend 3 hours a week on newspaper…maybe 1-2 on litmag.

my biggest commitment by far is DECA. i created a community service project for over 100 students that local tv covered and state senator commended me on. my chapter advisor is one of my teachers who will write about my great leadership skills. like i said, im also a state officer and have won at the national level.

i dont do a lot but what i do, i do well and passionately. i think thats important

I forgot.
I work 3 times a week tutoring kids at Kumon.
I will be doing an internship at mcgraw hill for educational publishing during my senior year.
I do public relations for kumon so i had my picture in forbes.

I created an ecommerce business on amazon with over 1000 dollars in profit.

columbia - reach
brown - reach
chicago - slight reach/match
northwestern - slight reach/match
wesleyan - match
mcgill - not sure, but probably a match

Don’t ever listen to “IHateUofC” as he never substantiates his claims and clearly has some vendetta against UChicago. There are plenty of students who are happy there (the vast majority). With that said, it does take a certain type of student to truly appreciate the academic aims of the university and you’ll find that out as you do more research. As for chances, your ecs are slightly anemic by “ivy standards” but nothing’s for sure until you apply…the good thing is that your stats are competitive with most applicants at all of these schools so you truly have the opportunity to set yourself apart with your essays. Much luck to you.

I know that you don’t have a class rank but how near the top of the class are you? If you are in the top 3 students you have a much better chance. SATs are fine. Have the lit mag or newpaper won any national awards? See if you can enter any more writing contests to show that others recognize your talents.
Your choices for APs are on the light side - how about opting for some of the more meaty APs - physics, calc bc, chem or take a college class (at Wesleyan?)

as for writing competitions, im inthe process of competing for 3 very prestitigious ones.

i think my counselor rec will be great since we’re like good friends and she can talk about my character and my sometimes messy home situation
my one teacher will attest to my writing skills
the other like i said before will talk about my really good leadership skills

kumon is a paid job and ive had jobs all through high school because i dont quality for aid but i need money for college

the publishing internship is obviously unpaid but should be good experience
if i do a good jhob, i mayu be able to get a supplemental rec

i also got into uchicago with worse stats - i’m 19th in the class out of 282. i think there were actually a couple of people above me in the class who didn’t get in. moral of this story: stats will not absolutely determine your chances. and essays are god.

To: I hate U of C: Why did you say that ? What was your experience ? Please share your view as to what and how you hate it? Any good thing about it?
