So the big question is are you applying for financial aid? The second is, are you applying ED?

Very likely accepted, as you show command of math and english, and excellent writing ability. If no FA, and applying ED I give you 80%. I don’t chance anyone who has no “hooks” higher for Williams.

If you don’t really need aid,or your family makes over $250,000 a year don’t check the box. You won’t get any aid at that level, unless several other siblings are in US colleges, and because Internationals are no longer need-blind, why be at a disadvantage for no reason.

Good luck! Nice job! I expect to hear about your future career making the world a better place someday!

Thank You for the kind reply !
Well actually I will be requiring Financial Aid because there is no way I can pay $50 000 a year, I really don’t want to be at a disadvantage because I require FA. And Yes I will be applying ED. My heart and mind is dead set on Williams.

Williams is not need-blind, but still has great FA. They say that exceptionally talented applicants are admitted regardless of financial need. I guess you’re probably what they’re talking about. Good luck! ED is a great thing to improve your chances!
Have you visited Williams?

You still have an excellent chance-but have a back-up plan-they have a lot of money, just don’t know if they’ll want to share it w/ you.
If you end up RD, might want to try the big H, and Dartmouth-plus Amherst, Midd, etc.

Schools have “excellent financial aid” for US citizens/permanent residents.

It’s not the case with international, non-US citizens. They have the money to support you, but they won’t grant full need like they will for US citizens.

I think you should keep your options open and not apply ED. Applying ED means you will go to the school NO MATTER WHAT. of course you can back out because of financial reasons, but ED is for people who know they can pay.

Call up Williams and some other schools you’ll apply to and ask about their average aid package for internationals and their policies. Good luck, you’re a good candidate for admission.

I haven’t visited Williams but I know A LOT about it through my debates coach, whose actually a senior at Williams now. He’s probably the only paki to have ever gone to Williams and he’s on a full aid package, But then again he applied when they were need blind for International Students.

As far as I’ve been told they do have FA for International Students and meet the demonstrated need BUT it is limited, so they give it to a few International students.
So I guess its worth a shot. If its an acceptance with a good aid package, DREAM COME TRUE! If its not, then I will have to look up other Colleges for the RD round.

You won’t get your final aid package until may/June. They give you an estimate in December.

I know it’s your dream, but you’re not supposed to use ED to try to get in. ED acceptees would have still gotten in in RD.

Nah, I’m not using ED so that I can increase my chances of getting in, that would be pretty naive. I’m essentially doing it because I’ve already graduated and its my first preference.

Is there a reason you cannot wait? Family/personal?

Well I have to be sure whether or not I should be applying to local universities, Because if I apply to a local uni there’s no turning back from there because they I have to pay the full tuition upfront and all. So it would be best to get some closure in December.

Oh, okay. I understand. Good luck with Williams!

Thanks for your help !

You 2 are bananas. Of course you should use ED to get in. Your odds(see the lexie thread) increase by a substantial percent. If you don’t get enough aid, that is a legitimate reason to turn down an ED acceptance.

If you have an ethics issue, just include with your application a letter stating that without such and such amount of aid, you will not be able to attend. Then the ball is in their court.

A letter isn’t necessary because it’s already a clause of the ED agreement, which you read and sign.

ED and EA are not the same thing. You shouldn’t just apply ED knowing you will most likely have to turn it down for financial reasons. It’s best to have many options come April 1

Not if you want to go to Williams above all else.

but the OP WON’T go to Williams above all else if there isn’t enough financial aid. being an international, it is even trickier.

As I said before as far as I’ve heard from a current International student whose on Financial Aid… They WONT accept you in ED or RD if they cant meet your demonstrated need. If they accept you they are bound to give a good aid package because International FA is for limited students. Its even on their website.

That’s my understanding as well. Williams is need-aware for internationals but does meet their need if admitted. It is a very tough pool. Definitely use ED if this is your number one choice.

If you don’t use the ED, they will possibly already have accepted their needy promising student from Pakistan, and you are MUCH less likely to be accepted.

10% ED international last year-28ish. 550 ED applications. Much less likely to get lost in the shuffle of RD-the ADCOM is looking at 6000+ applications then.
