What are my chances for LAS or DGS (undecided)?

Without unweighted GPA, or class rank, I’ll hedge my bets, but I’d say you have a good chance of being made an offer directly to the Math program.

Thanks Balthezar. Is the math program one of the more competitive LAS programs?

If you could post your unweighted GPA and class rank, we could give your a more definite answer. I think you should be good, though.

My school doesn’t provide unweighted gpa or rank for some reason. What do you think my chances are for DGS if I don’t make LAS?

You should definitely be in DGS. I got in with a similar gpa, lower ACT, and less AP/ECs.

I had asked about acceptance into the engineering program for some odd reason a few months ago, and I still have the email saved. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your email.

It sounds like you are a qualified and competitive student for the College of Engineering here at Illinois.

Your high school rank is a part of your application profile. However, the primary areas that we consider when reviewing your application are course work, grades, rank, and ACT-- in that order. On the application there is a 3rd optional essay where you may explain that you were not able to take as many AP classes as you would have liked due to scheduling issues (keep this brief), so you may use that to show that you are eager to challenge yourself academically.

Hm. Well that doesn’t bode too well for me. I mean I have the coursework, but my grades (particularily in sophomore year) are not up to par. Do you think my SAT/ACT will redeem me? And also, engineering is a lot harder to get into in comparison to LAS from what I hear.

While all programs in Engineering (except for Bioengineering, which is highly selective since it is still so small) are about equally difficult to get into, but with LAS, difficulty of acceptance varies by program. Math, however, is one of the programs that is more selective within the college.

dude, you’re in. just chillax. haha
