Going to a competitive CA HS will be taken into consideration but your GPA is still on the low side for the majority of the UC’s and SLO.
UC capped weighted GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
SLO capped weighted GPA? Same as the UC capped weighted GPA but include 9th grades.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 1.8%
UCLA: 2.2%
UCSD: 7.2%
UCSB: 10.1%
UCI: 11.1%
UCD: 16.6%
UCSC: 43.8%
UCR: 63.3%
UCM: 88.7%
Averages for SLO Business:
SLO GPA 4.12 SAT: 1410
SDSU: Match to High Match
CPP/SJSU: Match to Low Match
UCSC: HIgh Match (50:50)
UCI/UCSB: Reach
UCLA/UCB: High Reach
Unless you are local to CPP or SJSU, I see no safety school.
Best of luck and I think the Cal states are your best chance.
“San Diego State and SLO are pretty competitive as well. Those will be reaches. Cal Poly Pomona and San Jose State are matches.”
What are you talking about? Her eligibility index is 4430 for CSUs and Cal Polys, meaning pretty much in unless she applies to computer science or engineering, which she’s not.
“Unless you are local to CPP or SJSU, I see no safety school”
Are you sure about this, the EI for econ at SJSU is 3000, she’s at 4430.
@theloniusmonk: OP has not clarified that their GPA posted is the CSU/UC capped weighted GPA so the EI may not be correct but I stand corrected that if they applied to Econ at SJSU, that their EI makes it a safety. However, if they applied to some of the other Business majors, it may not be a safety.
SLO does not use EI but MCA points which is a whole different calculation and uses 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation vs. 10-11th grades at the UC’s. If the UW GPA is 3.3 for 9-12th then most likely the capped weighted GPA could be 3.7 which is low for SLO Business Admin or Econ.
“This is not to say that you will not do well in college, but the reality is that many Asian females (especially Chinese) will have 4.0/1500+ and even then many of them will be outright rejected at Top 20 schools, although they will have slightly better chances at admissions than Asian males.”
Most of the schools on her list cannot use race in admission so they “technically” should not be comparing her to other Asian females. California and Washington have banned race in admissions, that’s 11 out of her 16 schools, and not sure what ranking you’re using, but only a couple on her list would be top-20.
^don’t want to get into a debate but please re-read my post. I was saying that lots of Asian females have way better grades and are denied by Top 20 schools. I didn’t say that the OP was applying to any Top-20s. Just that her grades/scores are low compared to the rest of the typical demographic.
Reading comprehension helps…
“schools for me because of their acceptance rate and purdue and UIUC business is less highly ranked”
Purdue is going to be interesting, their 25-75 is 1190-1390 and 3.5-3.9 for the whole school, however engineering really drives that up, 1350-1470 and 3.94-4.0 and given that engineering is 25-30% of the school, you could probably back out the non-engineering applicants to be 1100-1325, so your 1470 is really good there, and the non-engineering GPA would be approx be 3.25 to 3.75, still on the lower end but not as bad. You have a good shot at Purdue for bus or econ. Good luck!

When you say Asian females, you’re implying these colleges evaluate applicants based on race and gender, which they can’t, as in CA and WA, you can’t use race in admissions.
You also said this:“San Diego State and SLO are pretty competitive as well. Those will be reaches. Cal Poly Pomona and San Jose State are matches.”
Here’s the problem with your statements, she should be admitted into SJSU because it’s based on the eligibility index, where she is at 4300 and the econ cutoff is 3000 and the business cutoff is 4000. How is that a match? She’s in.
You just thought Asian female and assumed Stanford and Harvard and posted negative post after negative post.
CC is not a debating society. And obviously OPs grades are low for the demographic. And UCs do not take ethnicity into consideration, but bad GPA won’t help for the tippy top UCs.
I never mentioned Harvard/Stanford…and reading comprehension helps.
Also would you consider Arizona, Arizona State or Utah? All very good OOS publics and you might be in line for getting merit aid from Arizona.
The University of Oregon might be worth trying as well. Lots of California kids on the borderline for UCs will get in
@Hamurtle yes I have already applied to Arizona State and I got in haha
ASU is a pretty good school. Congratulations.
