Chance for Merit Aid?

Will I qualify for any merit aid?

Intended Major: Mechanical Engineering

Asian, in state (junior)

Here are my credentials:
GPA: 94.1 UW
ACT: 33
SAT: 1510

Course Load:
I’ve taken the hardest courses offered at my grade level.
2 APs atm, honors everything else, etc.

Awards:
NHS, NSHS, probably NMSF (1470)

Activities:
Club soccer
Leader in Multicultural Competency Group
Member of Math, Entrepreneurship, Engineering Club
Science Olympiad, first year, possibility of being leader next year
I also tutor geometry and algebra in school.
I tutor young inner city school kids as well.

Looking to get a job and do research over the summer.

You need to apply before Nov 1st. What is your class rank?

My high school does not rank but I would estimate the top 10% at least.

Thanks! I haven’t even heard of the Morill Scholars program. I’ll have to do some research.

Michigan State University has an honors college with a Professorial Assistantship for people with an ACT of 33 or above so you would qualify. You get a merit scholarship to equalize tuition to state prices and the chance to compete for a full ride.

Note that merit scholarships are not automatic or guaranteed at OSU. In the past they seemed to be automatic for all intents and purposes. But more students with high stats are applying and there are numerous examples of students who meet the criteria for the highest level merit scholarship (Maximum) receiving a lower level scholarship or students who meet the criteria not receiving a scholarship at all. So hope for the best but figure out up front if OSU is affordable for you without the merit scholarships.
