Hey!

You seem like a very good student. I would say that your SATs will put you above the other kids with the same/similar GPA, so that’s great. Michigan you def will get into. UNC and Duke are both coin flip schools, meaning even with such good stats, you may not get in. But the best part about a coin is that it has TWO SIDES! So assuming one side is Duke and the other is UNC, you have a great chance in getting into one of them :).

Good luck in your future endeavors!

Thanks!!! Obviously I plan on taking the SAT a second time. I’m worried about my ECs, esp. My lack of leadership. Any thoughts?

I think Michigan is a match, and I think you have a good shot at UNC also. Maybe try to bring up your math+reading score a bit, since Michigan focuses more on that. Duke is a coin flip like the person stated above.

Thanks for the chance!!!Any advice for improving my chances at Duke?

I would say somewhat decent chances, but not the best. UNC and U Mich are extremely competitive for out of state. I think I heard the 50% SAT score for U Mich Ann Arbor was somewhere along a 2250 which is pretty ridiculous.
Your grades are not *, 3.91 is fantastic, especially at a top-ranked school. Your EC’s are not *, they’re good, maybe not exceptional, but still good.

U Mich and UNC do not value EC’s that highly, but still a toss up due to you being out of state.

If you apply to Duke with Early Decision, with good essays, I would say you have a good shot.

Also, what is your race? If you are a URM, that might be a major factor in the admissions process.

Get your CR score above 700 and you should be within the range required for Duke. Are you applying to Trinity or Pratt? What is your class rank?

Raise your CR score and definitely take at least one additional SAT 2.

Buff up your EC by being promoted to an officer position on few clubs you are passionate about.

Idk my class rank. They don’t release it before senior year. I will be taking the SAT Bio this saturday. One of my main problems is my lack of leadership, and ability to get it. I was passed over for MUN president, even though I am on of 5 people to have been on it since freshman year.
And I don’t have much other clubs or opportunitis for leadership positions

UMich is very competitive for OOS students. The admission rate for OOS is around 20%. Your test score and GPA are slightly above admission average in the overall applicant pool but may be around average for OOS students. So your change may be slightly above 20%. Bring up your CR score to 700+. Forget about the SAT2 Math2 score. It is not required and it is not impressive for UMich. It is hard to be a match for OOS students these days, and definitely no one can say “def get into” UMich either. Check out the posts by rejected students will even higher scores/GPA on the UMich subforum.

I think Michigan and UNC are matches; Duke is a reach. If you pick your SAT, and write fire essays, you’re fine. Where else do you plan on applying? What do you wanna study?

Thanks for the Feedback guys!! I plan on studying either pre-med or molecular biology, or BME. Leaning more towards
pre-med, so in the case of Duke, I would be applying to Trinity. I also plan on applying to UMD (in state school), CWRU(legacy school), Cornell(far reach along with Duke),RIT, and maybe JHU if my resume improves

I have similar stats to you, applied as Poli Sci, and got waitlisted at UMich. I’m OOS. UMich is tough for OOS, so I’d say it’s not a shoe-in for anyone.
