Hi! I was wondering if someone could chance me for Duke and UNC?
Current GPA: 3.81
SAT: total score is 1950, breaks down to 530 on math, 690 on reading, 730 on writing. I’m planning to retake it in October to raise the math score-- I’ve been taking the practice course from College Board and realistically I can get at least 2100.
I currently have 21.5 credits, and am going into my senior year. I’ve taken 6 classes a semester since starting high school.
Honors courses: poetry/Shakespeare, American history, chemistry, Latin, western cultural history, biology, British literature, physical science, American lit, and government.
Extracurricular/volunteering: Team policy debate (freshman year); mock trial (sophomore and junior years); I’ve gone to a moot court camp at a law school for the past three years, and I won the moot court competition this year; I work as a receptionist at a physical therapy office; I have at least 100 hours serving in my church’s nursery; 12 hours doing volunteer childcare for an educational training event; I also volunteered in the special needs class my friend’s younger brother attended (not sure the specific hours though); helped with a 5k that raised money to give to an anti-human trafficking organization.
I’m an NC resident, which would help me get into UNC.
These aren’t the only two schools I’m applying to, so I won’t be heartbroken if I’m not accepted. I’m planning to attend a private university that’s fairly easy to get accepted to.
I know my sat score is low, especially for Duke, but I thought I would just apply to see what happens. I did receive an informational letter from Duke a few weeks ago, without me having contacted them for information, so that’s a good sign 
Informational letters mean nothing, I’m afraid. Duke is a huge reach for you right now with those scores given the rest of your information. See how things look after you retake the SAT.
Youll probably get into UNC instate. I don’t think you have a good chance for Duke unless you hit 2200 which is very unlikely.
I’m sorry but your chances for Duke with a 1220 M+R SAT score are close to none. Even if you do raise your SAT score to 2100-2200+ Duke is still a high reach for you.
You have a chance with UNC, Duke seems like a stretch right now. You can try using sites like schoolinks.com to network with people form those schools you want to go to see what you need. good luck.

Are you URM? If so don’t count yourself out for Duke
Definitely a no go at Duke. UNC in state is a possibility, though.
You will not get into Duke; I am being honest here to save you disappointment later on You can still apply if you wish, but do not rely on it. UNC should be fine though.
Duke is a high reach, you’ll need a 720+ on each SAT section. UNC should be fine with a re-taken SAT.
I think you could get into UNC if you retake the SAT! It really helps that you’re in state. Good luck!
Duke will be a huge stretch. UNC is also a stretch but chance would improve with better SAT scores
