My son is 8th grader applying for 9th grade. He got all A in public school and 2nd place in state piano competition. His SSAT is: 2160 (83%) with math: (782) 94%, verbal: (710) 78%, reading: (668) 60%. How good is his chance for Milton academy, Noble and Greenough? Appreciate your help.

Does he need Financial Aid?
What other extracurriculars does he participate in?
Which country or state are you from?
Is he a lively, loquacious boy?

Milton’s average SSAT admit is 90th percentile (says on the BS review website)
I don’t know about the other two schools…
reading and verbal NEEDS to improve. Milton likes bragging about its writers :)

If you’re applying to Nobles and Milton, chances are you’re applying as a day student. Getting into Milton as a day student I’ve heard is FIERCELY competitive. So, his bad math and reading scores might kill his chances. Sorry, but I think if the reading was in the 70’s it would be redeemable, but since it’s in the 60’s it’s not. Don’t worry though! Retake the SSAT! That’s what I did and my score just dramatically improved!

Thank you SnapePotter and Ifax for your valuable input. My son took the ssat again and improved the scores to: total 2196 (89%), math 797 (97%), verbal 713 (79%), reading 686 (73%). He will take one more test (1/8). Besides piano, he plays hockey (current), soccer, baseball, tae kwan do. All in B level. For fiancial aid, I haven’t decided to apply or not. We may be able to get some. But our saving may look sufficient to pay it fully. Thanks again for your advise.

i know this is old but oble and greenough is one school…

He/she is referring to Milton and Nobles.
