Chance for my little sis?

Hello folks,

My little sis has Tufts high on her list. I have held off on doing these 'chance' threads, but she is really on pins and needles about Tufts so I figured I would do this as her silent proxy... Wondering if anybody would be so kind as to chance her for RD '2013? If the results are promising, I may mention it so she feels better. If not, I'll keep it to myself..

Her stats:
* White/Female/New York public school (upstate)
* SAT1: 780M / 680CR / 800W
* SAT2: 780 US Hist / 780 Math2 / 660(I think) Chem
* AP US History Exam - 5
* Ranked 2 / 470 in class
* GPA = 4.2w; 3.95uw (This is my estimate, but pretty close)
* All available AP courses (Calc BC; Physics; Spanish); all A's in them
* Involved list of focused EC's in and out of school
* Class VP
* VERY involved in service to the community
* Works part-time 25-30 hours/week
* Killer recomendations
* Great essays (at least the couple I have proofed for her)
* Legacy (parent) -- not sure that matters at Tufts. I was not accomplished enough to even consider putting TU on my list at the time I myself was applying to colleges 3 years ago.
* Best sister in the world (ok.. matters to me, but maybe not Tufts adcomm)

Thanks in advance, and good luck to all applicants this year !

Gabby

Based on the info you've provided, she looks like a very strong applicant.
I think that legacy matters to a degree, but some people think it matters more on ED.
I assume she has applied somewhere else ED?

Thanks for the very quick and positive reply, WCASParent.

With regard to your ED question: That's a sketchy subject. Over my objections -- I'm away at my last year of school so not there -- she did EA (not ED) at a couple of her "Likelies" (a.k.a. "safety" schools). It was her GC's advice, the thought being that she could put an early "win" or two in her pocket; I think it was wrong-headed but what's done is done... the guidance dept at her high school is understaffed and I hear they are each being held to "yield" numbers of their own like USN&WR so I hate to think they are manipulating the ED actions of students based on this metric, but who knows.

I swear the whole process is being gamed even more than it was just 3 years ago. From the outside looking in it appears the whole college admissions process is becoming a style-over-substance exercise for the students involved. Do adcomms really care what font size is used on the essays, or whether it is in present tense or past tense? Seems like I see lots of that kind of picking of nits in these CC forums. I am glad to hear from people like you and DanAdmiss@Tufts that adcomms are able to look past the window dressing aspects of the process.

Anyway, off my soapbox; thank you again for your help.

She's got good scores in both SAT I's and II's, challenging courses, and good grades, so she's definitely in the running and looks to have a very high chance of acceptance, imo. If she writes good essays and shows that she genuinely wants to come here, she'll have an incredibly high chance.
Btw, which school is she applying to? She's got very good chances with either one, but possibly even higher if engineering.

hebrewhammer: She is looking at Engineering I believe, although she has applied at some of her other choices for Physics.

Well, at Tufts, there are separate schools of Engineering and Arts and Sciences. You must specify which one you're applying to, but not necessarily your major. My impression is that it might be slightly easier for girls to get into the Engineering school (at least with such high math scores) due to the demand for female engineers.
