<p>Bacc/Med is very selective. However you have the three Science APs, Calc BC and terrific SAT scores. So I think you might have a good chance to be invited to interview. But it will depend on how you presented yourself in the Bacc/Med app, your essays, whether you come across as very much wanting to study medicine and whether you appear to have well rounded interests too ( they like applicants to have interests outside of medicine as well,...interesting students). It looks like you do, given your ECs, so best of luck!</p>

<p>If SC is your first choice university, be sure to note that on the application.</p>

<p>You might wish to correct the spelling of commissioner before the application is sent to the admissions office.</p>

<p>As long as you don't come across as using SC for a safety, I think you would have a good chance at being invited to interview for a Presidential or Trustee scholarship. I don't have enough data to truly know what prompts such an invitation, but you have great numbers and a nice range of EC's. It could help to request an admissions interview, and be sure to let your personality come through in the essays. Good luck!</p>

<p>Your stats look excellent. My only suggestion is to explain your hospital volunteer work and lab work--how do these activities relate to your interest in medicine? Which areas of medicine did you do work in?</p>

<p>mdcissp, I did talk about my hospital and lab work. At the hospital, I have two jobs. One is to speak with patients to make their stay comfortable and second, I am a 'candy striper' I guess, even though I would prefer not to call it that hahaha. At the lab, I am learning techniques and utilizing the lab to sequence DNA, ultimately using it for cancer research when I am more experienced (right now I'm learning basics)</p>

<p>It's hard to figure out what expressions of interest could make a difference - possibly none, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. SC is not known as a school that tracks interest, but I was encouraging you to sound sincerely interested in your application. You probably did that just fine. If you want to do more, you could figure out the name of your regional admissions officer and send her a note or email saying that you were unable to schedule an interview, but wanted to let him/her know that SC is at the top of your college list.</p>

<p>stueydue, I don't think USC really engages in the so called "Tufts syndrome". My D knows a number of applicants from last year with high stats and impressive ECs who were offered admission, and in a few cases were invited to interview for scholarships, though some chose other universities. Plus there are many at USC, particularly in the TO program, who have high stats. If anything, I'd be inclined to believe USC would be interested in attracting you, and I agree with FauxNom that you may have a good chance in being considered for Trustee or Presidential. In any case, you will be eligible for the Thematic Option Program if that interests you.
If it would make you feel better, you could fax Admissions with an inquiry of whether there are any interview cancellations (they do occur), with the mention that your interest in USC is high.</p>

<p>I suggest that you think about the people skills you are learning as a Candy Striper hospital volunteer. Showing genuine interest and compassion for others in medical need, experience with a particular age group (ex. did you work with pediatrics or elderly) could lend itself to going into pediatrics or geriatric medicine, or whatever specific things you did in your hospital volunteer should help you express specific interest in medicine. On the other hand, if you enjoy lab work-cancer research, this might also be more of your passion in medicine. I suggest you think about your specific work and how that experience can demonstrate your enthusiasm for the pre-med program. Hope this helps.</p>
