Chance for Stanford

Hi u guys. I'm an immigrant from Vietnam & gonna apply for Stanford this year. I don't know if i have even 1% to be accepted but i have something that maybe considered strong.

I've just been to the US for 1 year and a half.
My personal statement's gonna be super good (i can tell =)).
Got 800 in SAT math ( 1740 total - super suck but i'm still learning English)
800s on math 1 and math 2 subject tests.
soccer varsity junior year
My AP scores:
AP Cal BC (5)

AP classes i'm taking:

AP Stats
AP Physics
AP Psychology

It's gonna be extremely lucky if i'm applied for Stanford, so i'm trying. =))

Quick English lesson: make sure to capitalize the “I” when it’s stand-alone or with “I’m”. :)

As for your chances, I’m not sure, but providing your GPA would help.

I already know that, but thanks anyway. :D. Between, 4.0 GPA.

Just going to be realistic- do not apply. Stanford requires a lot of essays and your SAT score is way too low. You sound like an awesome person who is excited to go to an American college, but there are more than Stanford! Look for others. The Stanford application is infamous for being a lot of work and you could spend that time doing apps to three other schools where you would have 5x the chance of getting into.

Good luck pal. Don’t be discouraged, be smart.

This is completely irrelevant and I apologize, but I’m also Vietnamese and you have the exact same name as my father… Strange. :)

tbh…im with wallrus. that SAT score is very very low. The only people that get in with a 1740 are MAJOR athletes and the like. I’m in kinda the same boat as you though :frowning: still applying nonethelss

Thank you guys. =))
What happens if the SAT is raised up to about 2200? I’ve been preparing for 10 months for the test in November and believe that I will be good this time.

How the heck do you get 800 sat1 math with poor english? I always make a dumb mistakes on 2 or 3 problems because of not reading carefully or something else stupid.

A 2200 would be a good score for Stanford. My only caution to you, considering that you’re still learning English, is to brace yourself for Stanford’s supplement. It may or may not deter you from applying. It has short answers and 3 essays. Try to find a teacher who would be willing to be your mentor/editor as you write your responses. You want to make sure your essays come out very well to help your chances. Good luck with your college process!

Stanford may require the TOEFL or something like that if you are still learning English.
