Why not try SUNY Binghamton as well?
SUNY New Paltz: match

@happy1 I don’t think I like Bing’s location
@Mikeystripes thank you, if you were to say “accept, reject or wait list” for stony brook, what would you predict?
I’d say depends on your school, for example the SUNYs seem to really like my school for some reason. You have a good gpa (I’m assuming unweighted) so you could get accepted or waitlisted. I don’t think they’ll straight-up reject you.
@Mikeystripes how would you rank the SUNYs on my list in order for my intended majors?
I don’t know anything about science majors sorry man
bumpbumpbjump
SUNY New Paltz = safety
SUNY Stony Brook= match; excellent for science BUT very commuter/weekend suitcase, so only pick if you can go home on weekends
SUNY at Buffalo = match; strong contender for science
SUNY Oneonta = safety
SUNY Oswego = safety
SUNY Geneseo = match; another strong contender for science
My guess is that you’ll get into 2 if not all 3 among SB, Buffalo, and Geneseo. The setting are so different but are in-state, so you can plan to visit on a Friday while classes are in session, attend a class, walk around campus, pick up a newspaper to see what students are thinking, eat in the cafeteria to see how students interact with each other.
SB is in a suburb type area, Buffalo is a typicaly rust belt city, Geneseo is a classical college town (with a very pretty campus).
Considering your stats, are you applying to St Lawrence, Skidmore, Marist?
@MYOS1634 applying to Marist, do you think Skidmore/St.Lawrence are good fits for me? Are they good for what I am looking to major in as well?
They’d be an alternative. At least, run the Net price calculators to see whether they’d be within budget.
Skidmore has beefed up its science offerings and has become quite strong, but 1850 superscore would only be acceptable there if you attend a lower-performing school and are either URM or lower income. If you’re URM/lower income, look into Union and Lafayette, too, and if you’re a girl, Mount Holyoke.
Marist is a good match.
Run the Net Price Calculator on those: Muhlenberg, Susquehanna, St Michael’s, Goucher, Allegheny, Clark, Elizabethtown, Juniata, Fairfield, Clarkson, Wheaton (MA), Ursinus. See which ones would be within budget.
@MYOS1634 as in currently attending a lower performing high school or applying for one of the lower performing schools at Skidmore? My high school is kind of average, but my 1850 ranks as the fifth highest scorer for the SAT in my high school, which is pretty bad compared to some of the students on this site. I’m a white male with a family of only 40k per year income, but I’m sure Lafayette and Union are still reaches for me, right? Thank you so much for your help and suggestions. If you’re familiar at all with Fordham, do you think I have a good chance at getting in?
@MYOS1634 I know I am asking a lot from you already, but if I sent you my current common app college list, would you being willing to assess it and offer suggestions or schools I should take off? Either way, I’ll post it below:
Drexel
Fordham
Muhlenberg
SUNY New Paltz
SUNY Stony Brook
Temple
The College of New Jersey
University of Scranton
Trinity College
Marist
@MYOS1634 means if you attend a lower-performing high school, as Skidmore does not have separate schools to which you apply. Actually, I think your high GPA and rank will be more important factors than your 1850, which definitely isn’t a deal breaker there if you have other positive qualities.
Drexel=> unlikely to be affordable. If you like the co-op system, apply within the net 2 days to UCincinnati + Cincinnatus scholarship. UCincinnati is a leader for co-ops.
Fordham => match. Have you run the NPC though?
Muhlenberg => high match /because they’re holistic they’ll apreciate what you bring to the table so your odds are better than what they’d be “on paper”. Polish those essays.
SUNY New Paltz=> safety
SUNY Stony Brook => match but they’re not as holistic as Muhlenberg
Temple => match to safety - apply to the HOnors College (lots of good perks)
The College of New Jersey => unless you live in NJ, will be too expensive.
University of Scranton => low match, good pick
Trinity College => reach but would meet your financial need
Marist => match
Look into all the schools listed in #8.
@MYOS1634 once again thank you so much, so i think i’ll replace Drexel and TCNJ with colleges that you suggested earlier.
Run the NPCs and choose those that are “within budget”.
For the record, Drexel is likely to be 45-60Kand TCNJ is 39K.
@johnvcarlo you are the rare bird where the list is overly conservative. If you are taking TCNJ and Drexel off I would put St. Lawrence, Lafayette, Skidmore, Lehigh or Union on. Your SAT is about 1900 correct?
In your post 12, Muhlenberg and Scranton are on, two great schools where you have a very very low risk of rejection.
@TurnerT My SAT is 1850, and on this site it seems that my score is just abysmal. Lafayette, Skidmore and Union are all reaches, correct?
@TurnerT and Lehigh
