Northwestern does not really look at gpa per se. They consider your grades in the context of difficulty of schedule. Only 10th ans 11th grades are considered for ED. They do not look at the SAT writing. You need to be 1400+ on that. ED is an advantage.

Not true they look at everything. They have never said that they don’t look at 9th and its not on their website so I’m guessing 789 is just throwing out bull.

Actually, they only really care about writing if you’re applying to Medill. That’s what they said at the information session last year, at least.

I specifically asked an admin officer and she said they don’t really consider the writting section as heavily because they aren’t sure if it is an indicator of success in college.

@jkaufman lol I am not BSing! They still see your writing score! Cornell does not consider writing at all but NU still looks at it even if they don’t give much importance to it.

Northwestern does not consider the SAT Writing section. This is a fact verified with numerous individuals in their admissions department. They consider the SAT on a 1600 point scale. Believe this, it is the truth.

So why does NU when posting the class profile explicitly mention the Writing score of the entering class???

Cornell doesn’t look at the Writing score and hence does not include nor accept it in it’s Class Profile!

I will give in if you had said that NU does not give importance to Writing as much as CR or Maths but it surely consider SAT on a 2400 point scale! If I a wrong and you have some proof then please do tell me!

Cornell includes the SAT Writing score in its common data set as does Northwestern as do essentially all major universities. Northwestern DOES NOT CONSIDER the SAT Writing in admissions decisions. Don’t consider statistical information provided for ranking purposes with information used in the admissions process. As I was personally told by multiple Northwestern Admissions representatives “…we do not consider the SAT Writing score in the admissions decision”.

So I still have 1420/1600 composite! I have to bring it up at least another 100 points this October!

Phew…WRITING IS THE WORST PART FOR ME…and the irritating part is when people say that it is the easiest section!! Though after actually preparing for it…I think it can be tamed! :P
