Chance For Top Schools

I read everyone else’s threads and honestly I feel super under qualified and hopeless. I see people commenting that people who intern in the White House or people who have 2350+ have low chances and that scares me!

anyway, hi sorry I post a lot recently… as you can see I’m just so anxious with march madness  bear with my annoyingness if u can!
I’ll restate my stats/EC’s since I doubt ppl have the time to click a link and read over:

Highschool: Boarding school in CT; top 20 prep schools in USA (11 kids got into Brown last year, 4 Yale, 5 Penn, u get it)

GPA: 3.83/4.0 (All A- sophomore year, all A’s except 1 A- junior year, all A’s senior fall and spring)-- this GPA doesn’t include frosh year because I came from a pub school as a new sophomore at boarding school
Rank: N/A

SAT: 1510/1600 (780 math 730 writing/read)- one sitting

AP’s: Chem (4) US (5) Euro (4); taking Lit, Calc BC, Enviro (the rest are honors)- my school doesn’t offer any Ap’s for freshmen and only AP Euro for sophomores

In School activities:

  • President of Amnesty International Club (walk against human trafficking in Hartford, host womens march transportation, write for rights campaign, etc)
  • Founder and President of Global Enviro Awareness Club (created our own eco friendly bottles and made ~650$ within the school and donated to Greenpeace Organization)

Financial Aid: nope

Sorry this is long!! If you read this whole thing ily! As u can read from my forums I got rejected from northwestern and washu so I’m scared!! I’m still waiting to hear back from most ivies, Vanderbilt, tufts, gtown, emory, Amherst, UVA. I alreadyy got into UMich and BC Honors Program and NEU.

My boarding school has SOOOO many Koreans (like me), and a lot didn’t get in early, so the RD pool competition is INSANE. I know that decisions are basically out, I kinda just wanna see from a worldly perspective how to prepare myself for definite rejections (I def think I will get rejected from PENN and Harvard)

Thanks!

The good news is that you have been accepted to 3 great universities. The wait will be over soon and you can make your decisions then. As one friend, put it, going to college is like going on vacation. You could be on the French Riviera, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Key West, Cape Cod, SoCal, or LBI. These are very different types of vacation spots, but at the end of the day you are still on vacation. You will be in college and a very fine one at that (given where you have already been accepted).

Best of luck with your remaining schools. And, try to relax despite the competitive environment at your boarding school!

I hate to say this because I know you are really anxious but you really need to take a deep breath and relax. You are making threads and posting all over the place and it seems like you are obsessing over every little thing and second guessing yourself. You will have all of your answers within a week and a half or so. Just sit tight and force yourself to think about other things. I would tell you to continue worrying if you can tell me how that helps the situation or changes the outcome of decisions that will be made regardless of whether you perseverate about them or not.

None of us know how you will fare. If it helps to ease your mind, you are a competitive applicant so you have a shot at the schools you’ve applied to. That’s all any of us can say. Also, someone posted in the Stanford forum that they got a likely letter from Harvard but was just waitlisted at UChicago and rejected at Northwestern so there often doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to the decisions, it just comes down to how a person connects with the people reading their app. Stop worrying about what happened so far and just hope for the best going forward. Have some confidence that you’ve done all you can and it’s now out of your hands and stop over-analyzing the would have, could have, should haves or you will be in for a very anxiety-filled and unhappy life. Finally, just remember that you are but 1 of 7,000,000,000 people on a tiny speck of dirt floating in the infinite universe. What you are obsessing about may not be as important as you think. You could go to UMichigan and go on to do great things with your life or you could be accepted to Brown or wherever and nothing comes of it. It’s all up to you what you make of your college experience and thereafter.

Sorry to be so harsh but really it’s a bit unhealthy to get so wrapped up in all of this. My advice is get off CC and go live your life. You’ll know soon enough what your college choices are and NONE of us can give you any indication beforehand. Best of luck to you!

congrats on getting into those great schools already! this is probably the response you were expecting, but many of those schools are a reach even for the top applicants. I do think that since a lot of your work is related to what you intend to study, you show a lot of dedication and passion which is great. You’ll probably have some rejects, some acceptances, there is no way to tell which school will decide what, but good luck! and remember, your college acceptances don’t define you. be optimistic

Congrats on UMich, BC, and NEU!! Those are all great schools and you have great options in the bag already, so don’t worry too much. That being said, you are obviously a competitive applicant and have a good chance on your other schools. Honestly wouldn’t bank on the Ivies (or UVA if you’re OOS) because they’re a crapshoot for everyone. But I think that at your other schools you have a fair shot.

Don’t get too wrapped up/stressed about all of this, because you have been accepted to awesome schools already and will go somewhere great and be happy regardless. Best of luck!!

Update: got into UVA as OOS!!

BUMP- what would you say about Amherst?? thats one of my top choices (over Vanderbilt, duke, tufts, PENN)
