Chance for UC-Berkeley Eng, Cornell Eng or even Stanford and WILL CHANCE BACK

Let me point out that although I am only a sophomore in HS, I am on CC a LOT and look up admissions all over the internet so I can give you a pretty accurate chance for whatever school....vvvv

I am out of state UNFORTUNATELY but i am working hard to accomplish this dream...And I am only a sophomore in hs so maybe give relative chance? (my gpa and ap's are bound to go up)

GPA: 4.375 (will go up)
Four ap classes by the end of sophomore year....Have only taken one AP test so far it was AP Human Geo freshman year..I got a 3 with no studying but I am studying intensely for the rest of them throughout HS...Will probly have 9+ AP classes by the end of HS
Class Rank: 06/499
Have not taken SAT yet but sophomore PSAT WITHOUT studying was 189..Will study hard for SAT and hoping to break 2100-2200
Should I take the ACT or Sat Subjects? (i dont know much about it or even Sat-II's)

EC: Soccer Team, Student Government Association, Geography team (freshman year), Tutor Program where I tutor elementary esol students, Math Team, Robotics Club

I should point out I am not HUGELY involved in any of the aforementioned activities, but moderately in the "jist" of things. And I am thinking about starting a club at my school and also my friend and I are gonna try to write a political book together (we're socially/politically aware kids). If it helps, I am a persian-american and will be writing about such in my essay (if that helps?)

I think the oos residency is my main qualm with UCB. Stanford seems to be impossible to get into so that is why I am posting. Thanks so much everyone...

thanks for chancing me

soph PSAT = 189 <------- nice and w/o studying
since u did well on the PSAT , i would say take the sat
nice gpa + class rank (keep this up)
U HAVE TO KEEP UP THE GPA + DO WELL ON SAT
UCB eng 00s= 80 % shot
Cornell eng= 80%
Stanford = 60 %

well, you have very good chances to get into those schools if you get around 2150/2400 or 1400/1600 on the SAT, those ap tests really help these days, even with the top colleges.

bump is just a way of posting a reply on your own thread to put it on the top, instead of the 3rd page, 10char just satisfies the 10 character requirement for any post. This will increase the number of ppl that post responses because it will be in bold and it will be the first one they see

It is very hard to tell now, but if you have SATs 2100+, then you will probably be at a good chance for all three of them.

thanks a lot morgan…

bump

I got a 181 or 182 on the Soph PSAT, then a 183 on my junior one, but both were without studying and to some extent without knowledge that I was even going to take it that day. Anyways, my SAT came out a 2080 1st try, so the PSAT isn’t the BEST indicator. Absolutely do the SAT, although many people do say that it’s easier to score higher on the ACT, so IDK. Subject Tests are a must. Try to be more involved with your EC’s and keep that rank and GPA up, (do well on your standardized tests obviously) and you should be in good shape for your schools. Best of luck in the next two years.

And for all you California residents out there whose knowledge far surpasses mine…

Does ONE UC application allow you to automatically apply to all the UC’s and just see if you can get into any of them, even if you are out-state like me?

And I just read something but I am not sure…To be even CONSIDERED for any of the UC’s, do you actually have to have a Fine Arts course in high school like drama or visual arts? This seems pretty strange to me for such a prestigious institution, especially if I am trying to get into ENGINEERING (probly the renowned EECS).

“do you actually have to have a Fine Arts course in high school like drama or visual arts? This seems pretty strange to me”

Strange but true! At least for the time being…( Actually, I don’t think it’s strange at all…)

well i havent seen many other top colleges do that but idk maybe im just being ignorant.

bump…

too early to chance but i think your on a good path (for everything except stanford… they want godlike people), just make sure your grades upslope, btw Sophmore year psat is bad indicator, I got 224 soph (like 15 pts above the line), but only made it by 1 pt (for semifinalist) for the real thing

too lazy to find my chance thread that no one replied to in october… if you want you can go find it.

FYI, if your scores are good enough (SAT I + 2 SAT II = 3400 or more) then you dont need a fine art for UC eligibility. its called eligibility by examination alone :O.

bump 10char

Being out of state for Berkeley makes it more difficult to get in but its definitely not impossible since you have a high GPA and assuming that you will get good SAT scores. Cornell will probably be a low reach as it is pretty much for everyone. Stanford, is pretty much all luck (as it is for everyone); if you can convey that you will be a good match through your short answers and essays then you will raise your chances. And assuming that you’re a sophomore, you still got plenty of time, so stay active and keep up the good grades. Good luck.

UCB = 45
Cornell and Stanford = 30

thanks guys…
whats “ucb=40” and “cornell and stanford=30” mean?

Way too early to tell, so percentages at the moment are futile. You are an “Asian” applicant and that’s always a downside when applying for top schools because of the competition. Even people with 2300+ SAT and ranked in top 3 only have less than a 25% chance of getting into Stanford, about double getting into Cornell, and about the same for UCB I should think. Admittance rate to Stanford for Asians is like <10%. Just keep working at everything, take part in competitions in your field of interest, and you will be successful.

It is really early to tell but if you apply as an Asian it will be hard for you to get into them. Stanford especially. Your scores are all really good though. Maybe get more involved in your clubs and other ec’s. Make sure to make yourself standout. Right now I say 25-50 percent. Remember though they have to take some asians every year so you still have a good chance.
please chance back

whats “ucb=40” and “cornell and stanford=30” mean?

I’m assuming a 40 percent and 30 percent chance respectively.
